Changes
A troubled young man asked the
street sage, “Why do things
change so fast?”
After the old man raised the
brown-wrapped bottle to his lips,
the wino started to speak,
then paused.
After a moment, the man
philosophically answered,
“Cause the world goes
’round and ’round, an’ never stops.”

Problem Solving
You say we have problems,
but I think that is good.
Things are a little different
and that’s the way it should
be because our lives are better.
Changes bring its challenges
and we’ll face them together.
A singer isn’t alone on the stage
when he is backed by the band.
Our song is getting sweeter when
I tell the world I’m your man.

Old Friends
A pair of names, circled with a heart, are
etched permanently on the school desk,
indelibly recorded with layers of ink …
another sits on the signs of the past.
Skirts flirted once, and eyes rolled
around the room searching for love,
even though feelings were young …
another looks for a future “old friend.”

Calico Creek (French version)
Calico Creek

Laughing Eyes
When I looked at her,
her blue eyes exploded with happiness.
They made me smile.
She returned that smile,
and it drew me nearer.
I said “Hi.”
I walked away disappointed.
She was merely laughing at me.
From the first glance I could
see she was too pretty to love.

License to Love
I’ve got a license to love,
But I’m willing to give it way.
I’ve got a license to love,
And I need someone like you to stay
By my side.
I’ve got a license to love back now,
And it’s tattooed to your heart.
You’re the only one for me now,
And I’m sure we’ll never part.
For some it’s the end, but
Really for me, it’s just a start.
I’ve got a license to love,
But I’m willing to give it way.
I’ve got a license to love,
And I need someone like you to stay
By my side.
I feel your love wherever I go.
It’s an emotion I can’t deny.
I know you’ve been hurt before.
I’m glad you’ll give love another try.
You’re the only one for me now,
And that, my sweet, is not a lie.
I’ve got a license to love,
But I’m willing to give it way.
I’ve got a license to love,
And I need someone like you to stay
By my side.

Listen
Listen to your children, and
to what they are trying to say.
We could learn from them.
After all we were children once,
but something happened along the way.
