Share a Smile

Share a Smile

Share a smile with me,
and soon you’ll see how
short of a time it will
take to make something
big happen.

Share a smile with me,
and soon you’ll see
a new world of
adventures full of
possibilities.

It starts with a smile
and feeling grow into
miles as we drive down
life’s crooked highway.
Maybe you’ll go away,
but maybe you’ll stay.
I need to take that chance today.

So why don’t you
Share a smile with me,
and soon you’ll see a
new world of possibilities.

Six sticks of dynamite

Filed under: New Poems, A Cupful of Words — admin @ 11:59 am

Six sticks of dynamite

Things aren’t going right.
My mind’s all uptight, and
I don’t have to work tonight.
I just might explode, and
maybe get into a fight.
I feel like a short fuse on
six sticks of dynamite.

My girl friend up and went away.
My job’s getting harder every day.
The repo man came yesterday,
And my cousin’s here to stay.
Can’t watch my TV anyway.

I think the sun’s too bright,
And so is the moon at night.
Too much to think about alright,
And I need to make my
Problems go out of sight.
I feel like a short fuse on
six sticks of dynamite.

Memorial Day

A large American flag moves in the wind over the Border checkpoint in Laredo, Texas.  For Hoosiers, Memorial Day means racing and the Indy 500 race activities. For others is is a time to remember those who sacrificed their lives for this nation.  Whatever your reason to celeberate, even if it is just a time to be with family and friends on a day off, be safe and enjoy the holiday.

EI nombre del juego

Necesito una coartada.
 ¿Deseas ser mi amante?
Tendría que ser fingido
Porque trabajo encubielto.
 Estoy empleado
Por una compañia,
Pero no puedo decir cuál
 Realmente no existo,
Todo 10 que hago es secreto.
 Encontrar pistas
Alrededor del mundo
Es el nombre del juego.
Nada escomo parece ser,
Y a nadie se puede cuilpar.
La única regia es
Que no te atrapen.
 En el entrenamiento,
Todo es a prueba
 Para lograr una
 Base sólida y sobrevivir como
Los mejores.
Enmascarado,
Me convierto en un
 Desconocido en mi país.
Todo el misterioy la violencia
Es por seguridaddad nacional.
 Necesito una coartada.
Sólo di que estuviste conmigo.
 No te hará daño mentir.
Es algo muy fácil de hacer.

The Piper

The Piper

When you take any risks, you
must pay the piper back for all he does.
He’s happy because he’s rich and
plays the  pipe for something to do.
He has control over you.
If you fail, he can own your soul,
And paybacks are hell.
If you succeed, then you can leave his
presents once the debt is paid.
But then you take another risk
In order to succeed.

Dream

Dream

Dream

Age, silent thief of innocence,
A face ravaged with the lines of time
Murky eyes speak without words of a stolen youth.
Memories, play like old home movies, black and
white images moving out of time like phantoms on
the wall.  The buzzing silence is interrupted by the
ticking of the projector.

As the sky glows crimson, fading with the sun’s
descent sounds of the night grow louder,
shadows of the tree stretch across the land
covering it in serenity, the cool night
breeze gently carry the soft whisper and
prayers of children in their beds, twisting and
twirling, on their way to infinity.

Readers encouraged to participate in free open poetry forum

The purpose of any blog is to go beyond a static Web site and work to get feedback from the site’s readers. One way this Web site can perform this function is through an open poetry forum. Imagine a small café with a large corner stage large enough for a small band, but this time it has a solitary microphone and a high bar-style chair. It’s open mike night at the neighborhood coffeehouse with an audience relaxing to favorite flavors of tea, coffee or other beverages.

The open poetry forum on Elias Tobias World of Words is this coffeehouse where readers of the Web site can become participants by submitting poems for view by other readers, and the great thing about his coffeehouse is that it will always be open, beverage not included. There are a few rules, of course. The poems can be on most any subject using and form or style (or lack thereof), in English, and must be original material by the author making the submission. Length can vary, but not be more than 30 or 35 lines.

The poems can be emailed to contact(at)eliastobias(dot)net. and they will be reviewed by the webmaster. Sharp, clear head shots may accompany a poem with a brief background of the author. Only one poem should be sent at a time, so send the best shot. Like most public Web sites, such as those connected with state universities, poetry will not be accepted if it is: 1. Racist or discriminatory to any race, ethnicity or country of origin. 2. Sexually explicit or pornographic. 3. Extremely violent in nature or it displays excessive use of profanity. 4. Terroristic in nature or supportive of terrorist activity.

After a poem from an author, other than Elias Tobias, is posted, the author retains further publishing rights, and only first publishing rights are claimed by this Web site since the entire contents are copyrighted by the Webmaster. Like poems submitted to the open poetry forum, comments about may be sent to contact(at)eliastobias(dot)com, and must conform to restrictions to those for poetry submitted.

Whether the comments are positive or negative, it is the hope the open poetry forum that the comments are fair and constructive so people can become better writers. For now, the open poetry forum will be free. So get your ideas and pens ready for the open poetry forum.
