License to Love

Filed under: New Poems, A Cupful of Words, French Poems Translations — admin @ 1:00 am

License to Love

I’ve got a license to love,
But I’m willing to give it way.
I’ve got a license to love,
And I need someone like you to stay
By my side.

I’ve got a license to love back now,
And it’s tattooed to your heart.
You’re the only one for me now,
And I’m sure we’ll never part.
For some it’s the end, but
Really for me, it’s just a start.
I’ve got a license to love,
But I’m willing to give it way.
I’ve got a license to love,
And I need someone like you to stay
By my side.

I feel your love wherever I go.
It’s an emotion I can’t deny.
I know you’ve been hurt before.
I’m glad you’ll give love another try.
You’re the only one for me now,
And that, my sweet, is not a lie.
I’ve got a license to love,
But I’m willing to give it way.
I’ve got a license to love,
And I need someone like you to stay
By my side.

Dream Maker

Dream maker
… make my world complete.

Respect

Filed under: New Poems, Spanish Poems translations, A Cupful of Words — admin @ 1:00 am

Respect

Everyone needs it.
Most people get it
because they earn it.
Comics complain about it.
Military units forms it.
People have to have it
before they can get it.
It is respect.

A Poet and his Garden

Filed under: New Poems, A Cupful of Words — admin @ 1:00 am

A Poet and his Garden

Every once in a while, the poet
needs to take time away from the
daily routine and
look at his garden
of green ideas, for some of them
may be blooming among the weeds
of discontent, unnecessary words
and phrases.
Overgrown and diseased branches
of bushes need to be cut cleanly,
to allow for fresh growth.
The dirt under the poet’s nails can
easily be cleaned, and the tools
used make the editing easy now days.

Major growth needs to be staked, tied,
and controlled, or it will fight with
the weeds, next to the ground, for
the drops of inspiration, which are
quickly absorbed when available.
However, the drops, in quantity, may
flood the mind, and can wash away, unwritten.
Sometimes, a surprise appears.
A part of another baby bush is growing
elsewhere, and this new generation of
ideas needs to be nurtured like its
parents before.
The poet needs to work his garden
regularly to make his life more complete.

This poem is dedicated to John Lennon, left this earth too soon…Elias Tobias.

Just Me

Just Me

I am me, and
nothing can change me.
I can only be me,
not something I’m supposed to be.
Just me, me, me…

The cold water reflects the light from
the bare bulb onthe wall.
With a cautious expression, the
hot water knob on the left
stares at me.
The overflow drain of the sink
grunts at me as I walk into
the bathroom to wash my face.

When I worked for a newspaper in Millersburg, Ohio, I lived in an upstairs apartment in this old house, and the bathroom sink was this old-fashioned style item with the features that seems to talk to me.  This poems was first published along with a photo of the sink in the newspaper…. Elias Tobias.

I Think

Filed under: New Poems, A Cupful of Words, French Poems Translations — admin @ 1:00 am

I Think

I think I think
I think too much.
I think about
what I see, and
sometimes I think
I see too much.
I think about what
I feel is right and wrong.
I think about what is
small or tall.
And sometimes I
don’t think of
anything at all.

“Looking Back at the Speed of Sight” Theme for June

The theme of poetry for the month of June 2010 is “Looking Back at the Speed of Sight” for all daily posts, including the Poem of the Month below.  The way of looking in the past is selective, and we remember the most, the best, the biggest or the different aspects of an event.  Eyewitnesses accounts that police gather from an accident or incident have to be double checked since all points of view and states of mind at the time are different. So is what stays in the mind of a poet who takes a fleeting moment and tries to preserve it in words.  We look back at the speed of sight.

That Song

I heard that song again on the radio,
And it reminded me of a time long ago
When it was hard for me to know
Which direction my life should go.

Part of me didn’t want to hear it again,
Because it took my mind back when
Things happened and where I‘d been
And who I have become since then.

Those are memories filed in the past,
And I have changed who I am at last.
A new mold was made and was cast.
Now my new life has become a blast.

Decision, Decisions

Filed under: New Poems, A Cupful of Words — admin @ 1:00 am

Decision, Decisions

Decision, decisions…
what should I do?
People are all around,
all except for you.
I need some help.
I don’t know what to think.
Frustration mounts.
An instant’s gone in a blink.
Should I tell the truth,
or may I could lie.
I could always move.
It’s easy to say goodbye.

Everything has a price,
and can easily be sold.
Some new is used,
and becomes old.

Really need my wheels,
and payment’s due today.
I ask my boss for help,
but I don’t get a raise.
I earn whatever i get.
That’s what she says.
Strictly minimum wage,
and not a penny less.

The solution is solved.
I’ll stay on my feet.
But there’s a problem.
What and when do I eat?
What will it cost?
Do you have the time?
Have to hustle just
to make another dime.

Found a four-leaf clover.
Thought I’d get some luck.
The green never turned
into a million bucks.
I ‘ll go back to school,
and get a college degree.
I could be a teacher
and teach photography.

Have to plan the future,
while I lose the past.
Songwriters say to
make the morning last.
God is everywhere,
and The Bible is the Way.
His words are the truth,
a real guide for today.
Decision, decisIons …
What’s life all about?
There is so much to see,
and so much to doubt.

There are many posters which can be downloaded for free, and you can find them here.
