Who’s Shoes

Filed under: New Poems, Fat Free Poetry — admin @ 9:53 pm

Who’s Shoes

Who’s shoes are those hidden under the middle of your bed,
And who’s men’s stocks were stuffed behind the door?
Once I finally got around to cleaning your bedroom,
I have questions that leave me wondering more.
Sometimes you can try to hide the truth from me,
But the answers to questions are discovered in the end.
I thought I was your mother as well as your best friend.
There are facts of life in this house you can’t bend.

The emotions between a mother and her children
Are ones that create a very special bond,
And my love for you will last you whole life long.
So be careful who’s shoes stay on the floor.
Your choices will decide where you belong.

My Brother

Filed under: New Poems, Color My World — admin @ 11:56 pm

My Brother

I watched Legends of the Fall recently, and it has been a long time since I’d seen it last.  Brad Pitt’s character, Tristan, goes through an emotional and sometimes violent changes in emotion during the film, enough to make me think about this poem.

My Brother

These are merely metal bars in front of me,
And they can’t stop my love for you.
You loved me first, and then my brother,
And now I’m in jail seen as a fool.
I did what I thought was right, but
Others seem to think it was wrong.

I went away for a long time, and you
Had to wait years for my return.
By then your love for him grew and
His passion for you burned.
Even though you married him,
Your love for me was still strong.

He did all the right things in life,
Yet he has no children, no son.
When I came back from my journey,
The feelings you had for me begun
to quietly come back in your smile.
Our love is celebrated in songs.

In my mind, I committed no crime
And, in time, eventually will be set free.
I’m sure my brother will find a way
Out, and find a way to forgive me.
They say blood is thicker than water,
And someday soon we’ll get along.

Western Women

Western Women

(lyrics for a song from a western musical yet to be written)
A bar room scene-busyWomen today should be put in their place.
They want too much now for my tastes.
They already do plenty of chores, and
mix in some lovin, they don’t need any more.

Western women don’t need no spurs.
Western women don’t need no spurs.
Western women don’t need no spurs.
They just need to wear them dresses
and walk around with a purdy purse.

Women today should be put in their place.
They want too much now for my tastes.
They already do plenty of chores, and
mix in some lovin, they don’t need any more.

Western women don’t need no guns.
Western women don’t need no guns.
Western women don’t need no guns.
They just need to make us men happy
and show us how to have some fun.

Women today should be put in their place.
They want too much now for my tastes.
They respect me when I walk through the door,
Mix in some lovin, and they don’t need any more.

Western women don’t need no drinks.
Western women don’t need no drinks.
Western women don’t need no drinks.
They just need to stay with the family
and wash the dirty dishes in the sink.

Women today should be put in their place.
They want too much now for my tastes.
They already do plenty of chores, and
mix in some lovin, they don’t need any more.

Western women don’t need to smoke.
Western women don’t need to smoke.
Western women don’t need to smoke.
They just need to stay a proper lady
and avoid being some kind of joke.

Women today should be put in their place.
They want too much now for my tastes.
They respect me when I walk through the door,
Mix in some lovin, and they don’t need any more.

Western women don’t need to swear.
Western women don’t need to swear.
Western women don’t need to swear.
They need to keep themselves clean
and be an example to the kids there.

Women today should be put in their place.
They want too much now for my tastes.
They respect me when I walk through the door,
Mix in some lovin, and they don’t need any more.

Western women don’t need to vote.
Western women don’t need to vote.
Western women don’t need to vote.
Business of politics is meant for men,
Opinions should be left under their coat

Women today should be put in their place.
They want too much now for my tastes.
They already do plenty of chores, and
mix in some lovin, they don’t need any more.

Nature of Change

Filed under: New Poems, Figments of my Reality — admin @ 11:52 pm

This poem, or parts of it, were floating in my mind for at least a month, but I didn’t feel the words were there until today, Dec. 11, 2007. I guess I have to come to some conclusion about my thoughts instead of general ranting and raving about the subject.  That was the hard part. Then my headache went away after I wrote it.

Nature of Change

The changes in nature are the nature of change,
and nothing really stays the same.
Choices made by people affect other people
they don’t really know.
It’s predicted that it will snow in the
Bahamas due to global warming,
and it goes to show that no one has total
control of events in their lives.

In the role of history, it seems like
happenings tend to repeat themselves,
just in a different place and time;
but yet different people are involved,
and outcomes may be different.
Past attitudes affect the future.
It goes to show that no one has total
control of events in their lives.

In the role of evolution, it seems like
the bigger they are, the harder
they fall, and  strength and power
are merely a temporary situation.
Only those that change to current
conditions survive the cold.
It goes to show that no thing has total
control of events in their lives.

In the role of religion, there are many
faiths with a common theme,
and all in their own way explain the
world’s beginnings and the end.
But I don’t have to believe my friend
who thinks I’m going to hell.
It goes to show that no one has total
control of events in their lives.

First Snow

First Snow

pict4972.JPG Photo by Mike Hall

After being in Texas, and along the Mexican border for 16 years,  seeing the colors of the leaves changes in October was great.  Gradually the weather has been getting colder, and one thing was for sure, the first show, on Dec. 5, 2007.  About three inches of the precipitation fell. It was not good snowball snow, though. It was not wet enough.

I did snow it Laredo, in December  2006, nearly Christmas, about one inch, the first time in 100 years.  It was all gone by noon and it left behind a thick grit of Mexican red sand that was underneath the snow.  That did not compare to the first snow of 2007.  Sure more will come, soon.

First Snow

It was predicted, debated,
and must anticipated…
the first snow.
Children wondered if they
would have school, but
there are rules, you know.
It was just a few inches,
enough to set the mood
for the Christmas season.
The pine trees with green
needles say alive just
for that reason.
There is more cold
predicted with stimulation
for the creation of snowmen.
Drivers on highways had
challenges with conditions
in the winter wonderland.
Roads were treated with salt
combinations and there was
traction with sand.
It was busy as usual for some,
but for others, a special day when
the first snow came our way.

I have started a free open poetry forum so readers can submitt poems for others to read.  There is a special page with details.  There is a free poetry posters with a picture to downlaod, music from a song composed from a poem, audio tracks fo the Love Notes series, and comments are easy to make fore any page page (including this one.)  Find out more about Elias Tobais, get first-aid for submitted injured poems, or get published about how to get published.  Make sure to get caught up on the new poems.

The newest addition to the content of this Web blog is really on another Web site- four promotional videos available from an account on YouTube. Thanksgiving has delivered turkey and trimmings, and now people are waiting for Christmas for Santa to deliver presents requested on wish lists.

This month, there are two lists to deal with concerning my wife. Her birthday is also this month.

write_on.jpg Poem of the Month

The Poem of the Month for December 2007 is one that has been published in newspapers before and was written in 1995.

The Spirit of Christmas

Santa Claus is a very special angel who
delivers presents on Christmas eve night,
and his sleigh has magical powers
as trained reindeer aid in his flight.

Santa knows who has been naughty or nice,
and memorizes wishes on each list.
Other angels, known as elves, work
together so that no child is ever missed.

There are hundreds of people in stores
and in streets who dress in Santa’s suit,
but there is only one who, as legend has
it, can land with bells on each roof.

The children know of Santa’s arrival
through the recorded singers’ songs, and
their parents help create the spirit with
Christmas cards and presents for the cause.

There are some who don’t believe in Santa,
and those who don’t  know angels, too.
They all come from a source above, and
from a Savior born for me and you.

The Spirit of Christmas doesn’t end with
Santa or Christmas Day, it’s clear.
The constant need for giving all kinds
of gifts goes on throughout the year.

Santa Claus is a very special angel who
delivers presents on Christmas eve night.
The Spirit of Christmas is felt by those
who have seen the truth in the Light.

For another Christmas poem, type in “It’s Christmas Again, this year” in the search box.   Enjoy.
