Clark’s Cabin 1

(Photos by Mike Hall)
A replica of the cabin built by George Rogers Clark in Clarksville, Indiana. The original was built in 1803 overlooking the Ohio River. Clark received this land as payment for his heroism in the American Revolution. In that war, he raided British outposts south and west of Detroit. He captured Kaskaskia on the Mississippi (1778) and, in a daring winter assault, Vincennes on the Wabash (1779), securing American claims to the Northwest. He led an expedition against the Shawnee Indians in Ohio (1782). The financial records of Clark’s raids were burnt by Benedict Arnold’s troops in a 1781 attack on Richmond, Virginia. As a result, he was never paid for his expenditures and finished his life in poverty. The original cabin was part of a farm that also included a barn, corn crib, orchard and slave cabins. The Deal

The Deal
As the game starts, the rules change,
and the number of cards I get varies so
much I don’t know what cards to play
and the right time to show them.
The deal changes to another dealer,
and I wish I could get out of this game.
But once I fold, I can’t get in the game,
again, and I would lose all my winnings.
The truth is I play with the cards I got,
according to the rules of the minute
and sometimes that is really isn’t a lot.

Patriotic Horse

Louisville is known internationally for its interest in horses, and to celebrate this a series of horse statues around town are painted by local artists, much like the cattle are decorated in in Dallas. This horse celebrates the submarine, the USS Lexington.

Big Party

Hundreds of thousands migrated to the Louisville Waterfront Park in the heat and humidity to get the right seat for a concert with several bands including a major country act. The event itself was free to those who attended, however there were plenty of booths under the overpass near the park which offered food and beverages for a price. Following the two day event, fireworks filled the dark sky for each of the two days.

Rain for the Ivy

Rain for the Ivy
The ivy
creeps
over the
edge of
the cement wall
of this old two-lane bridge,
and the roots of the plants find life anchors in
cracks where they shouldn’t be at all.
I believe in the many possibilities,
And the potential of what I can’t see.
Faith in myself and people sustain me.
This is my reality I face every day.
The guy on the radio says there’s lots
of sunshine coming my way,
but I really wish it would rain
so the ivy would get a shower of
life and keep
on growing as I drive over the
the bridge again.
