The Best Love poem chosen

bestlovepoem.jpgThe election is over. Not the one with the presidential job at stake, but for the best love poem by Elias Tobias on the World of Words by Elias Tobias.  And like in most every election, every vote was important. In most public elections, only 20 to 40 percent of those eligible or regitered to vote actually exercise this right, for different reasons I’m sure.  Veterans who fought for this country would like to hear those reasons, I bet.
Now for the winner, Moon Eyes.  It is posted below.
The voters reactions for this choice were important.
Kate Ellingsen said, ” My favorite love poem will always be Moon Eyes.  Great work, Elias!” Jared said, “I’m a long-time reader of your blog, so I’m excited to cast my vote.  I think my two favourites are Moon Eyes and The Symphony, but I’m going to cast my vote for Moon Eyes.  Keep up the good work!”
So here is the winner, and it can be found in the Loves Notes and the 60 Favorite Poems collections.

Moon Eyes

Your moon eyes, bright eyes, collect
the energy of the day and reflect
the excitement of the night.

Your moon eyes, brown eyes, observe
all there is to see, like a baby
seeing the world for the first time.

Your moon eyes, big eyes, remove
all human obstacles to reveal
a new, understanding universe.

Your moon eyes, smiling eyes, relax
the tensions of day, like steam from
a kettle, and they make me laugh.

Easter Celebration

write_on1.jpg Easter Celebration

This month brings attention to the Easter celebration, and the Grace and Glory book was started last month to help prepare the way for this event.  Heaven is envisioned in many ways to many people, but the place is real for those who accept the Lord. Below is another poem for that anthology.

It is the April 2008 Poem of the Month.

Heaven

Before you were born, Jesus,
Lord Jesus, knew your name.
Skin color makes no difference.
In his eyes, we’re all the same.
God saves us from the wrath of sin
when we give our heart to Him.
Ask and you will receive
a new real internal peace.
Blessed with glorious grace,
His love will shine on your face.
Today can be a brand new day
if you only bow and pray.
Give your soul to the Lord,
and he will open the door with
the keys to a place called Heaven.

Burnt Toast

Filed under: New Poems — admin @ 1:59 pm

Those slow Sunday mornings…

Burnt Toast

…and then she looked at me
with a smile and said with a
table knife in her hand…
Make the most of burnt toast
Man, you gotta use your head.
       Scrape off the burned part.
You need to make the most of your bread.
       …and then I had breakfast.

The Center

Filed under: New Poems, Figments of my Reality — admin @ 1:03 pm

The Center

Everyone is a little universe, sharing space on the planet,
and we have become complicated animals capable of
doing the most or the least, the best or the worst, the
kindest or the meanest, or the dumbest and smartest.

Each universe is connected because we touch each other
on many levels creating circles of confusion.
When a person can see through the needs and wants,
the fear and hate, friendship and love, the journey to
the center of each universe begins and ends when there
is only one thing in life that really matters.

The journey is not easy, and usually takes years of
making mistakes along the way, and connections, too.
Some die for different reasons, natural and unnatural,
before their center is discovered. Balance is lost.

But once the center is found there is inner peace which is
Reflected in the outer confidence in decisions made in the layers
that connect with another universe and the planet’s resources.

My Compass

Sometimes I’m not self-assured,
And it’s difficult to understand.
I lose my way on the sea of decisions
And I drift without a plan.
You are my center, my North
and the limit, my South, too.
You’re my East and West.
The sun rises and sets with you.

There were no Valentine’s Day personal submitted, but continue your votes for the best love poem on the World of Words by Elias Tobias.  Happy Valentine’s Day, 2008.

More grace

Filed under: New Poems, Grace and Glory — admin @ 12:13 am

Some  of my religiously-themed poems are more than 10 years old, but they, like the subject, are still in effect after all these years.

Naked Thoughts

Even with my clothes on,
I ‘m naked before you, Lord.
You know my thoughts before
I think.
You kmow my every move before
I blink.
I pray to make your thoughts mine.
Help me to keep my steps in time
with your forgiveness and grace.
I pray to let my soul’s peace
show by the smile on my face.

Candle in the Dark

He lights the candle in the dark
and the light it sheds goes far.
Farther than any man could see.
It illuminates the path to eternity.
He has walked the journey before.
He was here when the world was born.
Jesus preached of a God of peace,
and that His father was in reach.
He said there was a choice to make.
Live forever with love or die in hate.
Surrender the world as your sacrifice.
Jesus did more. He gave his life.
But He came back to light the candle
in the dark. It was bright as a star.
The light will guide anyone to see
the wisdom, the glory and power eternally.

Just Pray

Make a long d.istance call
without any wires.
It doesn’t cost much to
talk to the Lord.
One operator, Jesus, is a direct line
Which is open anytime of day.
Just pray, and the burden
of your problems
will surely go away.

Spring Prayer

Lord, I thank you for this day.
I’m a success in an Earthly way.
The sun warms my heart as I see
the birds fly and bees play.
Wildflower blooms are on display.
The green grass is here to stay.
You sent your Son, Jesus, to begin
A mission to take away our sin.
Then the Holy Spirit took his place.
Lord I thank you for this day,
in Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Force of Nature

Filed under: New Poems, Figments of my Reality, Spanish Poems translations — admin @ 11:35 am

Comparisons of love and nature have appeared in song like “I feel the earth move”  by Carole King, and “Thunder in my heart” by Leo Sayer.  Here is my extended metaphor for a love-themed February.

waterfalls-animation.gif

Force of Nature

You’re a force of nature
when we make love.

You’re vibrations shake the
foundations of the earth causing
the highest mountain peaks  to
turn into fertile valleys of emotion,
and waterfalls form from
fractured rocks revealing
hidden suppressed feelings.

These feelings flow into
my heart and make me
remain through the aftershocks.

I hear the thunder sound
after the lightning strikes
the electricity in my soul.
This is an experience only
both of us could know.

Your Love

Your spirit blows around me
     And our journey begins

The rain is your love…
     You shower me with presents
And wash away all the pain

The snow is your love…
You blanket my life in a way
     Only you could know.

The sun is your love…
You light the sky each morning
And I know you are the one.

All I Can Say

I need you.
        I want you.
        That’s all I can say.

If I love you,
        If I kiss you,
        You might run away.

If I go slow,
        Then I will know
        You’ll want me today.

I can tell you
        That I love you,
But I can only pray …

You will want me,
        You will need me,
For more than just a day.

A Special Love

There is a love that dwells
deep within a caring heart.
There’s an understanding
the two people can’t part
Common trust and security
creates a sense of peace, and
this feeling lasts even when
someone does leave.
This love is constant and
changing as it grows.
This relationship is so special
only two souls can know.
