El Espíritu de Navidad

El Espíritu de Navidad

Santa Claus es un angel especial que
reparte regalos en la víspera de Navidad,
y su trineo lidereado por un reno entrenado
en su vuelo, poseemágicos poderes.

Santa sabe quién se ha portado mal o bien,
y memoriza deseos en cada lista.
Otros ángeles, conocidos como duendes,
trabajan árduamente para
que ningún ¬nino sea ignorado.

Existen cientos de personas
en las tiendas y en las calles vestidos
con el traje de Santa Claus,
pero sólo existe uno que,
como dice la leyenda, puede aterrizar
con campanas en los techos de las casas.

Los niños se enteran del arribo de
Santa a través de canciones grabadas,
y sus padres ayudan a crear el espíritu con
tarjetas y regalos navideños.

Existen algunas personas que no creen en Santa,
yaquellos que tampoco conocen a los ángeles.
Todo ellos vienen de una fuente alla arriba,
y de un Saltrador nacido para mi y para tí.

El espíritu de Navidad no termina con
Santa el Día de Navidad, eso está claro.
La constante necesidad de obsequiar regalos
a los niños continúa todo el ano.

Santa Claus es un angel especial que
reparte regalos en la vísperade Navidad.
El Espíritu de Navidad lo sienten aquellos
que han encontrado la verdad
en la Prosperidad.

Next Flight: the song

I went to college at Ball State University at Muncie, Indiana, and spent my freshman year in Edwards Hall. Because of overbooking the class of 1979, the first quarter was in a three in a two-man room. When I got a chance to get out of that situation, I had a roommate that was a radio and television major, but was very good at music. His name was Michael Albright. I shared a few of my poems with him, and in those days my early poems were typed in a 6-by-8 inch book I kept adding pages to since computers are not what they are like they are now. That year, 1976, I was still using Olan dey Gabona as my pen name. I didn’t start using my Elias Tobias until 1990.
   One evening I checked out a good cassette recorder from the library and arranged for Mike to meet me in the lounge at the hall’s piano. He looked through the poems, and I though he would pick a poem that be more of a song, but to within minutes he read the poem, Next Flight, and I could see the notes dancing in his head. Like some things in life,there is one take, and this was one those times.
     I have since had the song’s notes put down on paper, and had the music, words, and the written song copyrighted. But this was done several years later, near the time I graduated.   That summer of 1976, Mike had car problems on a highway hear his home in Anderson, Indiana, near Muncie. He was walking back to his home at night. A drunken driver crossed the center line, and hit him, running over his legs. He bled to death, and the driver was never found to my knowledge.
     There was a song by Elton John out around this time called Rocket Man, and this poem has that kind of point of view. I thought it was ironic that he chose the poem with the words, “take me on the next flight to earth.”

Take me on the next flight to earth;
it is the only home, I know.
It’s where good people are
and big oak trees grow.
It’s a place where people are
rhyming rhymes.
It’s a place without moving time.
Take me on the next flight to earth;
It’s a place filled of good
times of yesteryear,
not as place of nuclear fear.
Take me on the next flight back
to earth, I long to be near.

Paradise

Paradise

Put the dice in the palms of your hand,
close the fingers, blow in end for luck,
and see there they happen to land.
If you use the method to decide which
way you need to turn, beware, because
if you go left, you could freeze, or go
right, chances are you’ll get burned.
Anyway you go, your experiences
will become lessons learned.
An option is to go straight, and
stay the steady proper course,
but outside expectations may be
the source of an extra force.
These are decisions made on while
on the road to finding paradise,
and if that place is not really found,
the journey there is something call life.

Keeper of the Flame

My honorable duty, throughout the centuries,
has been hard. I am not the fire, or its end result.
I am the keeper of the flame,
for all to use for all its use in all forms.
I’m in each match, lighter, torch, molten rock, and
the leftover hot coal in a morning campfire.
Primitive man carried me around and worshiped me.
With me, many people can see, make iron and steel
tools and weapons, have food or warm places to live,
and jobs making the flame. Oil has value, as much
as gold, and plastic exists.
With me, much property has been damaged and destroyed.
People and animals have lost their lives, too.
Without me, none of this would happen, and this
world would still be a cold mass, struggling to
survive in the dark. That is why being keeper of the flame
is such an honor, since I serve the world.

Bands of Gold

Bands of Gold

The ad says, “Don’t want two bands of gold.
She said my love for her has grown old.
They were a perfect set when they were sold.”
I wish for the days when it was easy to hold
Her by my side and we were in love.

Please, would you like to buy these golden rings,
because they don’t mean anything to me.
She said she had to leave; had to be free.
I thought I was the lover she wanted me to be.
Love doesn’t count when it comes in three’s.

This is a double set of golden bands, with
diamonds to show off her pretty hands.
It was a message that I was her only man.
They have been returned, like my heart.
This is more than I can really stand.

I keep calling her, but someone’s on the line.
She’s searching for a love that once was mine.
Someday I hope she will realize, that
my heart is the one she wants to find.
Until then I’ll keep the rings in my hands.

El anuncio dice: “¿No quiere dos bandas de oro.
Dijo que mi amor por ella ha crecido de edad.
Eran un conjunto perfecto, cuando se vendieron.”
Deseo para los días en que era fácil mantener
Su a mi lado y que estábamos en el amor.

Por favor, ¿quieres comprar estos anillos de oro,
porque no significa nada para mí.
Ella dijo que tuvo que salir, tenía que ser libre.
Pensé que era la amante que ella quería ser.
El amor no cuenta cuando se trata de en tres.

Se trata de un doble conjunto de bandas de oro, con
diamantes para mostrar su bonito manos.
Es un mensaje que yo era su único hombre.
Ellos han sido devueltos, al igual que mi corazón.
Esto es más de lo que realmente puede estar.

Sigo llamando a ella, pero alguien en la línea.
Ella es la búsqueda de un amor que una vez fue mío.
Espero que algún día se darán cuenta, que
mi corazón es el que quiere encontrar.
Hasta entonces voy a llevar los anillos en las manos.

A long way home

A long way home

One day a youth decided to take a
different way home. He traversed seven
bridges that day. First, he crossed a
small stone foot bridge over a swollen
creek in the woods. In the same woods,
he went over a ravine on a plank bridge
with bristled rope guides. He crawled
along an old slippery log over a raging
river. The woods opened to rocky hills,
and he tempted fate on a suspended
rope bridge in a steep crevasse. The
hills gave way to corn fields and barns.
He went through a covered wooden
bridge over a small tributary. Next,
the road home covered swamp land
and bogs. A long, straight, low bridge
made of concrete, steel and asphalt
made the traveling easier. The noise
of people and cities filled his head,
and he challenged the bay on a modern
suspension bridge loaded with cars.
When he finally arrived at his house,
the youth had become a man, passing
tests of faith, love and responsibility.

Winter Morning Blues

Give me a few more minutes to get ready
And I will be as good as new.
I’ll look bright and alive as I usually do.
There is something I forget I once knew.
I’m hunting for where I placed my shoes.
The weather man says it’s going to
Be another day below freezing, too.
I need to be the right person you are
Used to when we see each other
When we start working each day.
There is something I’m going through.
I’m not really sick, nor have the flu.
But for now, I feel like I’m suffering
From the winter morning blues.

Dicen que la oposición atrae,
Pero es solamente un acto,
Porque es la química
Que tenemos tú y yo
Que Ie pone sabor a la vida. .
Estoy feliz de que seas mi esposa.
Al celebrar nuestros primeros Diez años,
Enfrentamos el futuro sin miedos,
Sé que siempre serás
Mi mejor amiga,
Y nuestro amor perduraná
Hasta el final.
