A variety of military groups were remembered from several U.S. Military conflicts in the Fourth of July Carmelfest Parade in Carmel, Indiana, and survivors of the U.S.S. Indianapolis were included.This brought out a display of many American flags , and the last participants brought the people along the parade route to their feet.

Brother Adrian Parker has had a bit of bad luck with the ladies, and he was a handsome guy in his younger years as his photo below shows. Now with a second wife and a secure job with an insurance company, he looks back at the stormy past with someone-perhaps his first wife.
The Bitch is Back
The world is a burden to her,
not that she really would care.
She as a bad attitude, and
seems to be a whole lot rude.
She is the only one who has
Problems on her mind,
and true friends are hard
for her to find.
She is the center of her
own universe.
Nothing could be worse.
When you walk up to her and
say “hi,’ she just walks on by.
On her island, she is free to
live her life alone eternally.
Every conversation includes
those words “I” and “me.”
Everything she does is done
on her own terms, and working
with others is like touching germs.
She can never accept any form of
compliment because she thinks it’s
some threat with some
mysterious hidden meaning.
Her disgust is seething.
The bitch is back, for a while,
until she leaves with that
fake, condensing smile.
I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the LSC fraternity of writers and those we have accepted beyond our beginnings at Ball State University. The World of Words by Elias Tobias has become a very popular site with a diverse amount of material, and I am glad to have participate in the collection of poetry on the blog. I know the effort is takes to sustain such a web interest, and if Elias to have some time off, I support him. There are plenty of words on the site to read already. including my poems.

Around September 13 years ago, I began an experiment by starting The World of Words by Elias Tobias. The technical and creative components have changed, but the original concept of making a place to put my work out for others to enjoy has continued and will continue. However, I will stop regular weekly posts after September 2011, a retirement of sorts. Occasional posts will be made, and the personal blog in the Fan Club Link will continue on a regular basis.
The humble beginning of one of thousands of new poetry sites in 1998 has become more than I ever anticipated, and reaction from readers around the world has been impressive. This highly rated site has flirted as one of the top 200,000 sites in the U.S. and maintained a place in the top million sites in the world. This achievement is going to be celebrated in the next few months before the regular posts end.
Also this month, the annual LSC unofficial fraternity reunion , usually scheduled for December, will be moved up to the end of September in Indianapolis. Plans are being made so that the LSC members and their families to gather at the new J.W. Marriott for a weekend of fun and festivities. By then most of the members will have had their last poems published on this web blog along with their photos and comments about the end of regular posts on the World of Words by Elias Tobias.
I can’t express enough of my appreciation to the readers over the years who have made this experiment of mine a success, and I hope it has become something for everyone to enjoy. There should be plenty of material for reruns while I continue to write at my own pace. I thank you for your support.
Smoky Mountain Vacation
In June, Patty and I went to Pigeon Forge in the Smoky Mountains for a week-long family reunion in one of those large cabins that had plenty of room and bathrooms for everyone, along with the game room which had arcade games, another TV and a pool table, two Jacuzzi’s and a hot tub, plus three decks and a great view. Too bad they were all stacked like apartments on the steep hills. Once inside, we had the pleasure of seeing almost all of her family and a few friends at the same time. We had a Christmas in July with stocking stuffers. I liked my Cowboy poetry book. The location afforded opportunities for photographs of the cabin when others were gone, and the results are posted in the Saturday photos this month.

A section of the Twin Towers that was left after the disaster is on display during the Carmelfest annual parade on July 4. It is being part of a plan for a project to put it on permanent display. Below Butler Bulldogs fan celebrated the arrival of Matt Howard, a former basketball star from the school. Howard now plays professionally.

Brother Levi Jacobs is one of the newest members of the Lambda Sigma Chi unofficial fraternity, and did not get as much of a chance to share his work on the World of Words blog, but we appreciate his literary efforts.
Day of Dreams
During an afternoon nap,
load your dreams with the
energy of life from the universe,
It’s easy to dream –
Just close your eyes to
create a new reality,
a vision of the future,
better economically and personally.
Part of the visions don’t have to end,
for the dreams are the map to
making friends when you
open your eyes to the possibilities
that can affect you and the
people around your new world.
I am proud to be part of the LSC fraternity, and pleased to have some of my work on display with the World of Words by Elias Tobias. I feel that I have truly become a part of a very diverse, yet unified group of people who live their lives, but yet have a common need to write, and write poetry as a form of self-expression. We share our work and value the time when we are together.

The Fourth of July Parade in Carmel had bands, politicians, special guest, beauty queens, old cars, horses, the emergency services and the military. Also included were local service groups, like the Carmel Rotary Club who peddled their way through the parade route. Below, one of the several bands that performed was the Gordon Pipers, from the Indianapolis 500 Speedway.

The Glove Box
I believe that scientists are wrong when
They say black holes are in outer space.
There is one in a very common place,
The glove box of my car, not deformed star.
Items that enter this black hole are rarely seen
Again, like the collection of restaurant napkins,
Or the mini first-aid kit when you get a cut.
And if that is not enough, try to find that square
Wallet with the title, registration and insurance
For the unexpected cop stop.
Somewhere there is an emergency flashlight
That can’t be found, especially at night.
Those emergency waterproof matches or the
Emergency flares are both never in slight.
After a while the glove box becomes a car
Repair bill and car manual file, aging daily
while I drive down the road.
Somewhere in there was some food, I’m told.
Scientists haven’t looked hard enough yet
To find the original universe black hole, I bet.
My first love has always been music, and the Lord lead me to the ministry, the main source of inspiration. I love my wife and family, and I love writing. I have been given many gifts, and I have been able to share them with The World of Words by Elias Tobias. I thank Brother Tobias for this opportunity to have my words in the forum.

The Sun
It is the object of power naturally
that brings light and life to this world,
And each morning its appearance is
unique as its curtain call, the end of
the show for another day.
Images of the sun have become gods
and in some form it is still worshiped
on the beaches of bodies by the sea.
The light from the sun is not always
seen directly, since clouds get in the way.
But the light shines through, even when it rains
in stormy weather. When the clouds roll away,
the heat warms my skin and I feel better.

July Fourth Celebration in Carmel in photos this month
Carmelfest is a weekend-long celebration of the Fourth of July celebration in Carmel, Ind, and the parade in that town is one of the largest in the Midwest with 116 entries and viewed by 60,000 people who lined the streets of the parade route. The weekend show has a three-stage celebration in the Civic Center, along with community and sales booths. Other photos from the parade are featured this month.

A Rodeo Fourth of July
To celebrate the Fourth of July,
There’s only one place to be.
At the weekend holiday rodeo, there
Are all kinds of things to do and see.
There are rides for children, young
And old, at the traveling carnival.
The busy Midway has a variety of
Food and fun games for all.
Then there are the main events
That are the reason people meet.
It’s the horse racing, and bronco
And bull riding that brings the
People in the stands to their feet.
There’s a parade of flags riders hold
as they circle the large arena before
any of the events begin, and then
there’s a prayer, then the national
anthem is sung like a hymn.
The contestants work hard to
Avoid hitting the ground, and
Feel a relief after the 8-second sound.
The winners and the losers heal
Themselves so they can ride another day
While a music platform is set up so
The audience can hear a country band play.
Speakers fill the stands as the crowds
Cheer in the cool, crisp night air.
When the music ends, the night
Feels still until there is a large boom.
