Larry the Snowman brought a cold front from Texas and between 12 to 13 inches of snow was dumped in Indianapolis, setting a record as the sixth largest snowfall in the city, the most in 13 years.  Snow shovels were put to use to dig out cars for those who needed to go to work, however many schools and businesses were closed allowing a playday, enough for Larry to move to Central Indiana.

Put your cell phone number on do not call list

All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies next month and you will start to receive sale calls. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS. To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list.

It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.  This is Do-not-call list applies for cell phone numbers in the U.S. only as it is activated by the federal government.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS. It takes about 20 seconds.

Waiting for the Moment

Barack H. Obama places his hand on a Bible as Michelle Obama holds the Bible when The Honorable John Roberts, chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, adminsters the oath of office January 20, 2009 on the west balcony of the Capitol building in Washington D.C.  The Bible used was used when Abraham Lincoln was sworn in as president.

Waiting for the Moment

An Illinois Senator told a nation, “Yes we can.”
Barack Obama was the name of the man,
And in an historic election, he was the first
Afro-American chosen as U.S. President.
He took the oath Jan.20, 2009 in one of the
Most attended of all inaugural events.
Now, every move he makes becomes
A new chapter in our nation’s history.
A change such as this was created by
Attacks on his race’s moral integrity,
And he was waiting for the moment
For his turn to continue the legacy
That anyone can work hard, succeed
In life, and still have personal liberties.

In times of foreign wars and a failing economy
Obama brings a ray of hope and prosperity.
He is from a family of a mixed heritage,
And experienced the power of diversity
When applied with the potential of the
Coming together of the whole community.
All the while, he extends his personal beliefs
To a strong resolve and honest integrity.
His words to youth, and to the old, were
Transmitted by Internet technology
For a call to change of old ideas and
Reversal of Bush Administration’s policies.
Obama was waiting for the moment
For his turn to continue the legacy
That anyone can work hard, succeed
In life, and still have personal liberties.

Obama is referencing historical context,
Using famous speeches and documents.
There was a time when crowds gathered at
Washington which King outlined his dream.
Decades before, Abraham Lincoln had
Witnessed a nation torn apart at the seams.
Old problems become new again, and new
Ones are added, like energy that is clean.
As a nation, he wants to protect Americans,
Wherever they are, without looking mean.
He has become a model for man who
Knows his style of clothes is always keen.
He shows a love for his wife and family
And plays basketball to stay physically lean.
Obama was waiting for the moment
For his turn to continue the legacy
That anyone can work hard, succeed
In life, and protect their families.

This poem took a long time for me to write, since most of my poems are without a particular person named, and exact locations and circumstances are not usually defined. Also this poem is longer than most, but due to the nature of the subject, the length is justified.  This poem is unusual for me because of the subject matter. Most of the time, politics and poetry don’t go together.  This is about an unusual person in an unusual time historically, economically and globally. Besides, I can break my rules I make, sometimes.

Your love has left a mark on me (song version)

Your love has left a mark on me (song version)

Your love has left a mark on me.
Your love has left a mark on me.
Your love has left a mark on me.
Woman, can’t you see,
Your heart belongs to me.

Your love has left a mark on me.
There are changes you can’t see.
Your love has left a mark on me,
Your love has set me free from
From all the time I was alone.

Your love has left a mark on me.
Your love has left a mark on me.
Your love has left a mark on me.
Girl, can’t you see,
Your love belongs to me.

Your love has left a mark on me.
I’m not the man I used to be.
Your love has left a mark on me,
And I have reason to believe that
I have hope for our future.

Your love has left a mark on me.
Your love has left a mark on me.
Your love has left a mark on me.
Girl, can’t you see,
Your heart belongs to me.

Your love has left a mark on me.
I now think of my legacy.
Your love has left a mark on me,
My life is changing financially with
Thoughts of having a family.

Your love has left a mark on me.

Cold temperatures and northern wind combine to create a January snow in the Midwest, and some of the snow fell on branches of trees in an Indianapolis apartment complex.

Last Souvenir

Last Souvenir

During a late night, high stakes card game,
I won the saloon in which I played,
and things haven’t been the same.
Instead of riding horses and branding steers,
I’m picking up pretzels and serving beers.
I’m not saying life on the ranch ain’t all
they say its cracked up to be,
but running this place is still a business,
except they’re more ladies to see.
There’s money to be made in the cards,
and these new-fangled gambling machines.
I still wear a cowboy hat, but a fancy suit
Takes the place of my chaps and jeans.

During a late night, high stakes card game,
I won the saloon in which I played,
and things haven’t been the same.
Instead of riding horses and branding steers,
I’m picking up pretzels and serving beers.
I still have the ranch; it’s part of my life.
Smell of horses can’t get out of my mind,
and there’s only one place to find the
look of the land when the sun comes up.
I have 10,000 acres that I can call my own,
and there’s plenty to hills and valleys to wander
and creeks to fish when I want to be alone.

When I’m thirsty, and want an ice cold beer,
I can get all I want free, at the Last Souvenir.
With all my good fortune, it’s the Lord I thank,
And next I need place to put my money, a bank.

Your love has left a mark on me

Your love has left a mark on me.
There are changes you can’t see.

Your love has left a mark on me.

As a cold front from Canada covered most of the nation, snow fell along with the temperatures in Central Indiana.  Pines trees along with other objects, collected the crystal deposits.  People bundled up as the thermometer’s mercury dropped to single digits and below 0.

Through the years

Through the years

Through the years, there have been things
I’ve collected that some may consider old
   or maybe even antiques.
Some survived from the many moves
made in a lifetime, and those things
are links to memories of the past, not
just an old vinyl LP record, a photograph
with just a year written on its back or
  a shirt missing irreplaceable buttons.
Through the years, I have been a
  different person, reinventing myself
to the situations, breaking the mold at the
end of each experience, and these
things are part of the person I have become.
