The Lambda Sigma Chi fraternity writer featured this month
All poems in posts this month are submitted by the members of the unofficial Lambda Sigma Chi fraternity. To read biographies of the members along with their photos and learn the history of the group, click on /?page_id=1368 or click on the logo above this story. The theme seems to be personal relationship and life situations.
The Elias Tobias Academy created As a person with several college degrees to my credit, I have learned one thing - just because someone has a degree, the learning process does not stop. In many instances, there is no direct educational benefit in the application of a certain degree to a kind of job. In my life, working in a group home for adults really didn’t require a teacher’s license, but it helped, especially with the mentoring aspect of the job.
In the spirit of this continuing education concept, I have created the Elias Tobias Academy. If I had millions of dollars to play with, some of it would go toward creating a physical location with hired instructors and dorms and buildings and staff and things that go with a regular private institution. I don’t have that kind of money, but I would like to help other people learn things so that their lives can be enriched just to know something else or for a better job.
Until the time I have a physical Academy, it will have to be a virtual one, using free on-line classes currently available through other colleges, universities and websites. No certificates can be granted through the Elias Tobias Academy, but perhaps a certificate from another source offering the courses is available. Diplomas aside, it’s the application of the knowledge gained that counts. In a world that is constantly changing in demands for skills, knowing how to do something new will help keep your job or find a new one.
The spirit of learning is the what the Elias Tobias Academy is all about.
The Academy is set up by major links which go into more detail. It’s just that easy and it’s free. Start by clicking here or on the ETA logo to get to the courses.
Photo series features trip to Bedford, Indiana.
The photo series this month features shots taken while patty and I went on an extended weekend vacation on Easter in Bedford, Indiana. We stayed at a hotel in town, but despite the rain and flood warnings, we used the time to travel on three auto tours mapped out by the chamber of commerce- the red, green a blue tours. Each route has directions to different parts of the area showing off the area highlights. Enjoy.
Poem of the Month
Beach Runner
I’m trying to carve my life
from the billions of grains of sand
as I watch time ship though my hands.
I’ve worked hard to create a
castle of potential and schemes,
but the tide rushes in and
quickly washes away my dreams.
Alone in the evening light,
I’ve ran along the beach,
but the only way to release
my pent-up anxiety is to scream.
My voice echoes among the rocks,
and then it’s absorbed by the sea.
There are many posters which can be downloaded for free, and you can find them here.
