In the more primitive times, there was a need for the law and lawyers. This sparce the law office of John Pitcher is now in the Rockport Lincoln Pioneer Village in Rockport, Indiana.  While in Indiana, winning a case against another businessman may have inspired Abraham Lincoln to become a lawyer.

Readership Chat Room and Survey

By some accounts, thousands of people are coming to the World of Words by Elais Tobias every day, many of which are first time readers.  One web site has an 90 percent increase in traffic during the last three months.  The Official Fan Club Web Site has been established and one key concept of the new site is readership community creation.  This means talking to one another.

One of the pages of the new Fan Club web site is a chat room so people from around the world can communicate.  Below is the Fan Note section to look for once you get to the Faces and Places page. Click here or on the image below to get to the chat room and start talking!  By the way, while on the page, you can answer the poll question, too.

15 Cents Worth

15 Cents Worth

I am wealthy and rich,
for I have 15 cents to spend.
What shall I spend it on?
On food?
Pay the rent? On love?
On music? On candy?
I can’t spend it,
for I have spent 15 cents
worth of time thinking
how wealthy and rich I was.

I am a survivor

I am a survivor

 lsc-logo.jpg

Imagine if all the words in the English language were packed in suitcases, and all you could take on the trip was a small fanny pack, what words would you use?  That is poetry.  Here is a good example of the pack’s contents.  Here’s a poem by Brother Bill Kelso.

I am a survivor

I am a survivor.
Ashes from the fire
flavor the meat of desire.

I know how to give
so we all can live
when survival is grim.

When it’s time to eat,
hands feel the heat,
and company’s a treat.

I learned as a scout,
survival is all about,
not being without.

Food, clothing, shelter…
having enough is better than
lack of having  any ever.

When are choices made,
friendships may fade, and
egos are subject to trade.

I can hunt without a gun,
fish for food in the sun,
and I can be the only one.

I am a survivor.

I‘m Gettin’ Gone

I‘m Gettin’ Gone

 ag00378_.GIF

This lyric has a strong blues or country music potential. I had a song melody in my head when it was written, but I’m not a songwriter.  If a musicial inspiration gets to your guitar or piano, let me know.  I’m always looking for a good song writer.

I‘m Gettin’ Gone

(introduction)

I’ve been thinkin’ ‘bout us, girl,
And sometimes it’s been good,
But sometimes it gets bad,
And now it makes me sad
To think I’m gettin’ gone.
I’m gettin’ gone.
Well , I’ve thought about it,
Just a little bit more,
And I won’t be comin’ back
Once I get through that door.
I must be free, like a buffalo roams,
And let the wide open spaces
Become my new home.
I think I’m gettin’ gone.
I’m gettin’ gone.
(bridge)
I’ve been thinkin’ ‘bout us, girl,
And sometimes it’s been good,
But sometimes it gets bad,
And now it makes me sad
To think I’m gettin’ gone.
I’m gettin’ gone.
It’s all up to you, girl, for
Us to have a second chance.
It’s the things you do to me
That spell disaster or romance.
I haven’t made my mind up,
But my decision’s comin’ fast.
I’ve given all I can give, and now
It is up to you to make it last.
I think I’ll be gettin’ gone.
I’m gettin’ gone.
(Minor bridge)
I’ve been thinkin’ ‘bout us, girl,
And sometimes it’s been good,
But sometimes it gets bad,
And now it makes me sad
To think I’m gettin’ gone.
I’m gettin’ gone.

Amor sensual

Que les choses s’arrangeront Just right
Avec un coup double de votre amour.

Je l’avoue, il y avait certaines choses
Que je connais ont eu tort,
J’ai probablement entre eux n’ont trop longtemps.
Avant je n’étais pas vraiment sûr juste
Comment nous avons été bien s’entendre;

Que les choses s’arrangeront Just right

Que les choses s’arrangeront Just right
Avec un coup double de votre amour.

Double shot of your love

Double shot of your love

Today I got a double shot of your love.
We made love in the morning and at night,
The way we feel about each other
Makes me feel good inside, and I know
That things will work out just right
With a double shot of your love.

I admit there were some things
That I know were wrong,
I probably did them too long.
Before I really wasn’t sure just
How well we were getting along,
But now things are getting better,
And I’m singing this song.

Today I got a double shot of your love.
We made love in the morning and at night,
The way we feel about each other
Makes me feel good inside, and I know
That things will work out just right
With a double shot of your love.

Now that I know I have a second chance,
Our love will be better this time.
I don’t know why things happened
Like they did; I didn’t see the signs.
All throughout the this experience,
Your love for f me has been kind,
I could search the world and know
there is never a better love I could find.

Today I got a double shot of your love.
We made love in the morning and at night,
The way we feel about each other
Makes me feel good inside, and I know
That things will work out just right
With a double shot of your love.

Legend in Her Own Time

Legend in Her Own Time

He was a rebel who wanted to be free.
He claimed as his all he could see.
His gang convinced those who didn’t agree.
He was young and full of opportunity.
He was a legend in his own time.

She was a beauty who didn’t have a care.
Everything she ever needed was there.
Her signature was her beautiful long brown hair.
She was taught life was always fair.
She was a legend in her own time.

One strange day their worlds did collide,
and their smiles seeded a love they couldn’t hide.
Secrets shared couldn’t cover the said lies.
She cut her hair as a point of new-found pride.
She was a legend in her own time.

They decided to elope and they were married.
However there was a silent killer he carried,
an unknown gift from the drugs he traded.
On the first night alone, he gave her AIDS.
They were a legend in their own time.

She was with child, and she was very pleased,
but it was delivered with the deadly disease.
The baby had several problems medically, and
it soon became a great burden financially.
The baby was a legend in its own time.

Her parents didn’t want to lose their baby, too.
She was 17, and there was one thing to do –
accept him as a son and they a pair, a two.
They had to work together to get her better soon.
Her parents were a legend in their own time.

He had witnessed the errors in his ways, and
knew he could not return to his old gang days.
He discovered life is merely a debt to be paid,
and he had another family in the gang’s place.
He was a legend in his own time.

As they got together, she continued to get worse,
and they banded to fight man’s new social curse.
Medicines cost them to dig deep into their purse,
They supported efforts to raise money to find a cure.
They were a legend in their own time.

Then early on a bright sunny Saturday, just a
week before she’d celebrate her 19th birthday,
the girl died of complications due to AIDS.
They tried to reason why this was a better place.
She was a legend in her own time.

Growing Family

Judge Daniel Grass was the second man to take a land grant in Spencer County, and the first to own land in what is now Rockport.  His expanded family warranted a double cabin home, which exhibits a breezway or that pioneers call a “dog trot.”   This home is on display at the Rockport Lincoln Pioneer Village in Rockport, Indiana.
