I wish…like me
I wish I was up there
So I could look down
Upon the people that
I was once like.
But,
I’m not.
I fly my kite only two feet
in the air,
and then it falls -
Like me.

Creativity
Brother Paul Abernathy takes an introspective look at the writing process with this poem.
Creativity
Note by Note, song after song, the musician
spends years looking for the lost chord.
Letter by letter, word after word, the poet
searches for the right combination of emotions.
Chapter by chapter, novel after novel,
the writer creates possibly publishable plots.
Color by color, style after style, the artist
brushes the link from the past to the future.
Negative by negative, roll after roll,
the photographer records a vision of the present.
Scene by scene, movie after movie,
the director explores the limits of probability.
Field by field, the creator uses old tools and
techniques to make the world look new.

y si he hecho mi trabajo esta noche
cada verso fluirá como el vino
Para ti, mi amor, te doy este poema
con tristeza, me salen
con la esperanza de este viaje le llevó
a un lugar que llaman el corazón

Vote for Poem of the Year
By the end of the year, nearly 160 new poems and previously published poems would have appeared on the World of Words by Elias Tobias, including the poems from The Boys of Lambda Sigma Chi, and the two foreign language books: Les Aventures du Cow-boy Cosmic, the French book, and Palabras de Inspiración, the Spanish book. Some of the poems are older and some were written this year. I like them all, and I am having a hard time figure out which one I like the best.

Les Liaisons Dangereuses
Les Liaisons Dangereuses
Officiellement, courtois, des dispositions sont
vraiment froid comme la glace,
et ce sont les amateurs qui paient
l’ultime sacrifice.
Secrets of the dark sont révélés
dans la douleur de la lumière du jour.
Perte de dignité ne peut pas comparer quand
Les esprits s’échauffent, la mort est le prix.

The Next Big Thing
Will the next big thing be some
new technology we can’t even see,
and then it will soon pass,
or will it be something slightly
altered from the good ole past?
It might already be here, poised
for the future as soon as there
is a new market for it somewhere.

Split Rails
Before the use of metal posts and barbed wire, the fences that early pioneers used to make corrals and maintain property bountries were made of split rails, or trees cut, and splt lengthwise. Abraham Lincoln spent much of his youth in the forest cutting timber for rails and for firewood. This scene is from the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial on the path to the recreated Thomas Lincoln farm.

Tale of Loneliness
A scream echoing from the distant past.
A hungry child holds out a wrinkled hand.
A little babe cries, motherless,
The sad tale of loneliness is told.
A blizzard freezes all that is spoken,
A bugle sounding never to be heard.
A deadly hush surrounds the public library,
The sad tale of loneliness is told.

Lightning
(Courtesy photo)
Lightning
Can lightning strike me twice?
Can the power from heaven find
a person to love again?
Once in my life, I heard the rolling thunder,
and I fell for a woman who was a
perfect match for an independent
person I was brought up to be.
It took an army of angels to see
that she was the only one for me.
Now I hear the distant sky roar
in the night as the rain starts to pour.
I wonder, do I deserve more?
Can lightning strike twice or is
it just a feeling I need to hide?
One love is all I need in my life.

Rumores
