The World of Words by Elias Tobias is 11 years old, and has been on the Internet for 11 continuous years. While the content has been expanded in its new format with a newer host, the mission of the web site has not changed. The purpose of the web site, now in blog format, is to promote the words of poet Elias Tobias, and a steady following, international in nature, has been developed. We appreciate the growth of the readership, and the goal of an average daily count of 2.5 million unique visitors by the end of the year is certainly a realistic goal. Celebration is the theme for Month
In keeping with the 11th anniversary of The World of Words by Elias Tobias, the theme for September 2009 will be celebration of any type. Each week this month will feature at least four poems per week: a Spanish poem, unpublished poems, and a previously published poem, linked to the publishing credits. The publishing credits history page has been updated so that poems already on the web blog are now easily accessible, and as the older published poems appear, links to these poems will be set to the poems listed in the publishing credits.
This month’s Poem of the Month is submitted by Paul Abernathy, one of the brothers of Lambda Sigma Chi, the unofficially fraternity of a group of writers that got started when I was attending college at Ball State University. This is one of his early poems, based on his working experiences.
Name me a chord, and I’ll play you a tune.
I’ll rock these ivories and work away your blues.
If you don’t know the name of a song,
Just hum a few bars and it will come along.
I’m a piano player in this old time bar,
Not some famous rock and roll star.
I’ve been working here a while, and
I have a song sure to make you smile.
Others take time to write the notes.
The song’s popularity gets the votes.
Let me know what you like to hear,
And music calms the beast you fear.
If you’re in the mood and want to take a chance,
I have a memory of love songs for romance.
Be sure to tell him to come here for the date,
And just hope he doesn’t come too late.
I’m a piano player in this old time bar,
Not some famous rock and roll star.
I’ve been working here a while, and
I have a song sure to make you smile.
Others take time to write the notes.
The song’s popularity gets the votes.
Let me know what you like to hear,
And I’ll play memories you’ll hold dear.
If you want be at a place with your friends,
And you don’t want the party to end
Then I have the songs that rock the beat,
and the music will move your feet.
I’m a piano player in this old time bar,
Not some famous rock and roll star.
I’ve been working here a while, and
I have a song sure to make you smile.
Others take time to write the notes.
The song’s popularity gets the votes.
Let me know what you like to hear,
And I might buy the next round of beer.
People are my audience, my life I know,
And music is a way for me to put on the show.
I just want to make other people happy, not sad.
I have a talent to just that and I’m glad.
I’m a piano player in this old time bar,
Not some famous rock and roll star.
I’ve been working here a while, and
I have a song sure to make you smile.
Others take time to write the notes.
The song’s popularity gets the votes.
