I’m Not Falling in Love with You
I’m Not Falling in Love with You
In my search for relationships, the concept of “just friends” came up quite often, to my discouragement. I often wondered how a person feels who says that, and in this poem, I tried to see this point of view- from the woman’s eye. That is the part a writer takes, especially in short stories or novels, where characters are created to fit the plot. I have left out the settings, names and details to protect the innocent.
I’m Not Falling in Love with You
I like the way you smile, and
the times you linger just a while longer.
I like the little favors you do for me,
but there’s more to come I believe.
I wait for the special times we talk,
and I treasure the times we walk together.
I know when you look at my body,
your eyes reveal some fantasy.
All these things are true, but I don’t
want to give the wrong impression.
I’m sure we can say we’re friends,
and I’m not falling in love with you.
There is someone in my life who
can predict my every thought and move.
I have pledged my heart to another,
and he is the one who is my lover.
I don’t want you to feel like a fool.
I’m sure we can stay friends,
and I’m not falling in love with you.
