Christmas Card
Christmas Card
Some people, like Brother Bill Kelso, like to keep Christmas cards through the years of special people, but sometimes, we look back at them and ask “Who is this guy”
Christmas Card
Dust collects on the past stored in the attic of my mind,
but there is one memory I can’t seem to find.
An old Christmas card folded out to this signed name.
I can’t remember when I got it or even the sender’s face.
This was a minor mystery to me, so I took a look in
My worn-out address book, and the name was gone.
The illustration on the card was new; it didn’t seem that long
ago that I stuffed it in the box with all the other cards.
I had to find an answer, and the other cards were clues.
I looked at all the cards again, and I started feeling blue.
Where did all the time go, and what have I done worth while?
Like a time capsule, the box preserved events in a card file.
Part of me wanted to trash the first card, and the rest of them,
But the unrecognized signature was still a mystery.
I focused on the single card and I wrote down possibilities
of who the person could be, but the list was short.
I was glad I didn’t toss the box of Christmas cards away.
Finally, I remembered the single card was signed by a friend
Who helped me out when my love for you started to stray.
This brought the mystery of the holiday card to an end.
