It’s Time for Me to Settle Down
It’s Time for Me to Settle Down
It’s the end of the trail for me, yeah,
it’s really the end of the trail for me.
Don’t want any more ranchin’ responsibilities.
I might even marry and have a family.
I think it’s time for me to settle down
and the people are good in this town.
I’m tired of ridin’ the range,
and I need to rest my bones.
I’m gonna give up my spurs
and somehow call this place home.
Times ain’t the same as they were
just over 40 years ago.
I’ve fought off bandits, Indians,
the wind, dirt, death, and snow.
It’s the end of the trail for me, yeah,
it’s really the end of the trail for me.
Don’t want any more ranchin’ responsibilities.
I might even marry and have a family.
I think it’s time for me to settle down
and the people are good in this town.
My gun and my saddle have
been my true friends,
but things are different now,
and the past must end.
Railroads bring the east to the west,
and fences take ranchers to the test.
Telephones communicate faster
than the fastest Pony Express pace.
It’s the end of the trail for me, yeah,
it’s really the end of the trail for me.
Don’t want any more ranchin’ responsibilities.
I might even marry and have a family.
I think it’s time for me to settle down
and the people are good in this town.
My hair is thinning, and it’s turning
white or gray. From Virginia to
Nebraska, my legs have carried
me a long, long way.
It’s the end of the trail for me, yeah,
it’s really the end of the trail for me.
Don’t want any more ranchin’ responsibilities.
I might even marry and have a family.
I think it’s time for me to settle down
and the people are good in this town.
