Virgin in my Heart -adapted

Editor’s note:   Ten years ago I wrote a poem, Virgin in my Heart, from the point of view of a person accepting another, and this appears on the World of Words by Elias Tobias here. I had forgotten about his poem and started a more lyrical version recently from the point of view of a person discovering something new about them self.  This is the new, more adapted version with a few lines taken from the old poem.

Virgin in my Heart -adapted

I just want you to know
Others have let me go
Because I’m not who
They thought me to be
Since I lost my virginity.

I also want you to know
You’re important to me
Because you love me so.
I want to have a new start
And I’m a virgin in my heart.

I’m a virgin in my heart.
There will always be a place for you.
I’m a virgin in my heart.
I love the things that we share and do.
I’m a virgin in my heart.
I want you by my side when nights are cool.
I’m a virgin in my heart.
I want to have a new start.

I’ve been touched before, but
I feel special in your own way.
When I’m around you I can’t
Think of the right words to say.
I need  to see you everyday.

I want our memories to last,
and to forget about our pasts.
Our hearts can beat as one.
Now our lives can be fun .
