The IPL (Indianapolis Power & Light) Festival Parade, carried on a 55-year old tradition of celebrating the Indianapolis 500 race the day before the race. On May 26, 2012, the third largest attended parade in the nation brought together more than 300,000 people for a few hours for a chance to see the drivers up close along with other celebrities, 9 balloons, 13 floats, and 14 bands. The first parade was in 1957 and it goes off successfully each year with 1,500 volunteers. Above, the prepaid seats set up along Pennsylvania Street, near Market Street are nearly empty hours before the event, and by the time the parade began at noon, those seat, along with others being them and the bleachers in other areas were full. Below, the pre-show entertainment started with Shriner clowns touring the streets, venders selling souvenirs, and Erick Yorkman shows what his bulldog, Max, can do with a skateboard. In further posts, scenes from the parade will be grouped by floats, balloons, bands, personalities and drivers.
