Modern travelers can tunnel their way through the Cumberland Gap, a key pass through the Smoky Mountains, but those who want to explore the gap further come to the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park. Along with a complete information center, people can visit Fort Cook, an earthen embankment that held a strategic view of the area during the Civil War.
