All Things Considered, post 2
Designer Faith
Freedom of religion is one of the founding rights of this country, although historically, some of the founding fathers had their own take on this concept. As Americans, we are taking this concept and embracing it.
In an Associated Press article by Eric Gorski that came out in December, the headline the Indianapolis Star put was “Many choosing faith from spiritual buffet.” There has been a mixing of faith and mysticism every since Christianity in its various forms became one of the major religions over the centuries. To gain acceptance, many pagan beliefs, holidays and rituals were incorporated to gain more Christian members.
So this article, although interesting, was not too surprising, really. The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life showed a tremendous growth over the past three decades in the number of Americans who indicated they had a religious or mystical experience. These experiences were from Eastern and New Age beliefs blended with Christianity. The study found one–quarter of Americans sometimes attend services of faith different from their own. That is good, I believe, since this would either confirm their own faith or see their options.
An Internet search for principles of peace also showed this diversity in what people believe. At http://principlesforpeace.com/, there is some information to consider. Another popular link was http://www.forangelsonly.org/artical/health-and-beauty/ten-principles-for-peace-of-mind.
The Pew study said about one-third of American attend religious service on a regular or occasional basis at more than one place. We, as Americans are looking for something to believe in, beyond the weekly paycheck, if you have that.
I have some ideas that will help, in no particular order.
1.Recognize and accept Love as our true nature.
2.Be loving, gentle and respectful towards others in your thoughts, speech and actions.
3.Surrender your ego to others.
4.Giving and receiving are the same thing.
5.Hold your relationships with others more important than any issue.
6.Be centered and connected to your inner source.
7.Love others unconditionally and serve and support them in their personal and spiritual growth.
8. Keep communications open and love conscious, active and present as we heal and grow together.
Peace be you with always,
