A Poet and his Garden
A Poet and his Garden
Every once in a while, the poet
needs to take time away from the
daily routine and
look at his garden
of green ideas, for some of them
may be blooming among the weeds
of discontent, unnecessary words
and phrases.
Overgrown and diseased branches
of bushes need to be cut cleanly,
to allow for fresh growth.
The dirt under the poet’s nails can
easily be cleaned, and the tools
used make the editing easy now days.
Major growth needs to be staked, tied,
and controlled, or it will fight with
the weeds, next to the ground, for
the drops of inspiration, which are
quickly absorbed when available.
However, the drops, in quantity, may
flood the mind, and can wash away, unwritten.
Sometimes, a surprise appears.
A part of another baby bush is growing
elsewhere, and this new generation of
ideas needs to be nurtured like its
parents before.
The poet needs to work his garden
regularly to make his life more complete.
This poem is dedicated to John Lennon, left this earth too soon…Elias Tobias.
