March Newsletter
Newsletter for the World of Words by Elias Tobias
Several new items have already been detailed, so this newsletter will highlight the new Open Poetry Forum, another way for readers to get more involved with this Web blog, the Love Poems book has been completed, and another book, listed as a category on this blog, is called new and Improved 95% Fat Free Elias Tobias brand Poetry. One of the things started with the old World of Words, was the Poem of the Month.
Below is March 2007 Poem of the Month. The poem is also part of the Fat Free collection. Let’s go to Calico Creek, but don’t try to find it on the map. The words may be on the page, but the place is in your mind referenced from your memories of another place. Your imagination merges with the words from my imagination, and away we go.
Poem of the Month
Calico Creek
I learned to fish on Calico Creek.
I figured out how to put the wiggly
worm on the sharp hook.
You can’t go fishing by the book.
I learned how to swim at Calico Creek.
My brothers thought it would be fun
One day to throw me off the bridge.
I had to swim if I wanted to live.
I learned to love at Calico Creek.
I brought my first girlfriend there
And stole my first kiss under a tree.
With a different girl, I lost my virginity.
I learned about God at Calico Creek.
I saw how He made the grass, the water,
The movement of the water and why
People, like my father, had to die.
I learned many things at Calico Creek.
When, now as an adult when I need a
Private secret place I could call my own,
It is a place I can think and be alone.
