Chills come when I hear Christmas songs,
And knowing some words, I sing along.
It’s a time when families get together,
even through the snow and cold weather.
It’s a time to find the perfect Christmas tree,
and make space for presents for you and me.
It’s a time to decorate for the holiday season,
with special foods prepared for people pleasin’.
It’s a time to reflect on the year that’s done
and see the work in the name of God’s love.
It’s a time to celebrate the life of Christ,
and how he makes darkness turn bright.

Family
Your parents are not always ones who gave you birth.
Your family is the group who loves you on this earth,
Who feeds and clothes you in a place called home,
And the special people who care wherever you roam.
Sometimes it’s best to have a father and a mother,
By now more families have just one or the other.
Couples adopt those children forgotten and alone
To create a time and place they can call their own.
Many children are raised by aunts, uncles and relatives
As a way to show how much an extended family gives.
Family means close friends as sisters and your brothers
Who care for the daily lives and decisions of one another.
A sense of family is important to know where we belong,
And the network of love and caring remains strong.
Family is the order of those born before in a history,
And monarchies exist when there is a royal ancestry.
Some go so far to say families include a favorite pet,
And in the framed family photos a dog or cat sets.
A phrases says the blood is thicker than water,
And people will fight for the title of mother or father.

And I admit to my crimes.
The sentence is severe,
But I can do the time
Because the law I broke

This key is a mystery
This key is a mystery to me.
It seems like I should have the master,
since it looks a copy, but it goes to
nothing that I use or own.
Does someone or something else have
the master and this is a riddle for me to solve
as I go along my life’s path?
Are the distinct cuts on both sides
of the shaft a secret code to the ups
and downs fate has in store, and the
slants, the transitions I have yet to make?

Corn Maize
There are many people who wander,
lost in the turns and twists of
the cornfield looking for the
best ear of corn … the one that
tastes the best or the one with
the best seeds so they can
grow their own field of corn someday.
The field is thick, so thick that
a person can’t make their own
path without cutting down many
stalks in desperation and also
eliminating chances of finding
the prize they are seeking.
The sun gets hotter in the afternoon,
and the clouds in the west shows
sign there might be rain soon.
The showers will cool the sweat
of those people who are still
searching for the right exit.
Others finish, holding the prize
ear of corn in their hands with
a smile on their faces knowing
they have won the game that day.
