Grammer Lesson

Grammer Lesson

Brother Christopher Benedict, being a wordsmith by profession, had a different point of view about how to apply language to the meaning of life.  I like this poem he sent to me.

Does it really matter if it’s its or it’s or what?
Participles are making me tense, in their past,
present and future.
Verbs are linking me to objects giving directions, but
I still don’t understand where I am going.
And I can tell ya their ain’t no such thing as a
simple verb.
If he and she are pronouns, they should have been
free agents by now and at least get proper respect
like proper nouns.
Adverbs and adjectives should go on strike and
life easier.
Prepositional phrases shouldn’t walk around school,
thinking the’re so cool, because they ain’t.
Gerunds are those egg heads trying to keep their
infinitives together.
I know English enough to get a good job, you know.
