Near the threshold of love and hate

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

Near the threshold of love and hate

There’s a thin line between ecstasy and pain,
somewhere near the threshold of love and hate.
The difference decides marriage and divorce rates.
The anxiety created affects outcomes of first dates.
Fear of the unknown makes many people wait.
Results are a matter of personal will or of fate.

Put the Blame on Me

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother Rufus McDougal

Put the Blame on Me

If you are going to blame anyone.
just put the blame on me.
I should have been with you more often,
not places I needn’t be.
I’m sorry if I caused you any pain,
My vision wasn’t clear to see.
Like the saying goes, I couldn’t
see the forest for the trees.
Your eyes can see through to my heart,
and it is your love I need.
If you are going to blame anyone.
just put the blame on me.

Or I Don’t Have You At All

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother Bill Kelso

Or I Don’t Have You At All

There have been lovers in the past,
but I can’t remember their first names.
Being with someone was important then,
and I treated it like it was just a game.
I was merely a child then,
wishing that I would quickly get old.
I searched for a time I’d find who
would let me wear their ring of gold.

Now all the cards are drawn.
The chips are on the table,
and it’s time to fold or call.
Either I win your love tonight,
or I don’t have you at all.

Other men want your affections.
All they want is to hold your hand.
If you give me just one more chance,
I will prove to you I can be your man.
I can’t say exactly what the others see,
but as for me, I am color-blind.
I can feel the love you have for me
in my heart, my soul and my mind.

Now all the cards are drawn.
The chips are on the table,
and it’s time to fold or call.
Either I win your love tonight,
or I don’t have you at all.

Remember that night together when we
first met, camping under the stars?
We talked about our dreams that time
and thought together we would go far.
The fire glowed full over your face,
and I heard you laugh with a smile.
The good times don’t have to end there.
The trail goes on a few more miles.

Now all the cards are drawn.
The chips are on the table,
and it’s time to fold or call.
Either I win your love tonight,
or I don’t have you at all.

I need you love more than you
can ever really understand.
Now you look away, close your
eyes and shake your head “no”.
I am pleading with you to just
give our love another chance.
You say you are in a hurry,
and it’s time for you to go.

Now all the cards are drawn.
The chips are on the table,
and it’s time to fold or call.
Either I win your love tonight,
or I don’t have you at all.

Hole in my heart

Hole in my heart

There’s a hole in my heart,
And the pages in the past keep on turning.
The love that was lost keeps on burning.
I just can’t understand why
You don’t want me for your man.
I can’t live my life without you.

Things are not as simple as they seem to be.
It’s convenient to invent another reality,
But the past resurfaces eventually,
Since keys to memories remain daily.
Fingerprints on the scene are obviously
Evidence she did the crime convincingly.
Like a cake, layers of lies raise possibilities,
And suspects’ motives twist ironically,
So much, it makes for a movie mystery.
At the end, she walks away, innocently,
But that is never the end of the story.

There’s a hole in my heart,
And the pages in the past keep on turning.
The love that was lost keeps on burning.
I just can’t understand why
You don’t want me for your man.
I can’t live my life without you.

Things are not as simple as they seem to be.
Sign with a stamp, and enter automatically
A million dollar sweepstakes or lottery,
But the odds of losing are mathematically
Decided, and, of course, done legally.
The real winners are a strange minority.
Costs of winning transfer to the majority,
And the promotion is done effectively.
Business incomes increase exponentially.
There will be those who want things free,
But that is never the end of the story.

There’s a hole in my heart,
Yet love for my wife keeps on beating.
The pain I feel inside keeps on hurting.
I just can’t understand why
You don’t want me for your man.
I can’t live my life without you.

Things are not as simple as they seem to be.
Time and again, humans ignore history,
And try to extend their possibilities.
World resources are used inefficiently,
And many people suffer, consequently.
Aided with more machines and technology
Countries connect by a complex economy.
Governments try to work together politically,
But strengthen their power with the military.
Life would be better if we lived in harmony,
But that is never the end of the story.

There’s a hole in my heart,
Yet love for my wife keeps on beating.
The pain I feel inside keeps on hurting.
I just can’t understand why
You don’t want me for your man.
I can’t live my life without you.

Things are not as simple as they seem to be,
When it comes to relationships romantically.
Who we love or hate is found astrologically.
Teenagers deal daily with changes in puberty.
Feelings and emotions are expressed musically.
Years of childhood disappear dramatically
Birth rates are proof of love’s popularity,
And more marriages are mixed racially.
The definition of what makes a family
Is challenged in county court rooms daily,
But that is never the end of the story.

Things are not as simple as they seem to be.

There’s a hole in my heart,
And the pages in the past keep on turning.
The love that was lost keeps on burning.
I just can’t understand why
You don’t want me for your man.
I can’t live my life without you.

I’ve got to let you go

I’ve got to let you go

It kills me so
to let you know
I’ve got to let you go.

We’ve made such good memories.
We laughed so hard, we cried.
I’ll remember days like these.
and the times you were by my side.

But there’s one thing I must say,
It has nothing to do with you.
There’s a reason you can’t stay.
I’ve been too much a fool.

It kills me so
to let you know
I’ve got to let you go.

I’m not the person I seem to be,
and you don’t want the truth.
Adventures we had were great.
They brought me back to my youth.

You don’t need your happy life
to be intertwined with mine.
My world would cut you like a knife.
It is at the least, most unkind.

It kills me so
to let you know
I’ve got to let you go.

Funny Picture

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother Levi Jacobs

Funny Picture

All you see in this photograph is an image
made in silver or with color dyes.
But then you fall on the floor,
and I’ll always remember your laugh.
I let you see it because I thought you
wanted to be friends, but you lied.
It’s clear the insult was deep, and
my respect for you won’t last.
This is my lover and my friend,
and what I see and feel is mine.
I care for her, more than you can
know, and I will for a long, long time.

How were we in love?

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother Bill Kelso

How were we in love?

My mind keeps playing tricks on me.
My thinking isn’t as good as it used to be.
It’s not just because I may be getting old.
The memories of you have gone cold.

The feeling of us in love has past me by,
and I wish I could remember why.
Since you’ve been gone, things aren’t the same.
I don’t know, but maybe I’m to blame.

Please tell me, how were we in love?
Did we laugh and have a good time?
Did we hold eachother’s hand and kiss?
When we were together, were we fine?
Please tell me, how were we in love?

After All These Years

After All These Years

It is nice to see you after all these years.
You were going your way, I was going mine,
But smiles we shared slowed our fears.
Now you have become a success, and I
Have done well enough for myself, too.
Stress of your changes don’t show,
And I see time has been good to you.
We both found people for a family,
And now each have several children,
But I wonder if there were moments
you wondered what could have been.
We needed each other back then,
And I feel like I need you now,
Even if it is to just remember what
My heart will let me allow after
All these years.

The Girl Next Door

Editor’s Note:  This subject is not original, and other poems or songs have been composed about it. This is my version of topic and is not intend to take the place of other copyrighted materials with the same or similar title.

The Girl Next Door

The girl next door was a friend of mine,
And our love for each other was hard to find.
I remember her face. Her smile was so kind.
I could hardly keep her off my mind, but
I was young then, and my love was blind.
Well I’m married now and I love my wife,
And have two children who love me, too;
But times I look at the kids growing up,
And my heart starts to feel a little blue
Because when I was young, I was in love
With the girl next door.

The girl next door was a friend of mine,
And our love for each other was hard to find.
I remember her face. Her smile was so kind.
I could hardly keep her off my mind, but
I was young then, and my love was blind.

We had just moved in, and I was 9 or 8,
I can’t remember now, but it was my fate.
She might have had curly blonde hair,
And we shared a squeaky backyard gate.
It was so long ago, I can’t think of her name,
But I loved her and she loved me the same.
I would be going her house to play games,
I was sad when the day we moved came,
Because when I was young, I was in love
With the girl next door.

The girl next door was a friend of mine,
And our love for each other was hard to find.
I remember her face. Her smile was so kind.
I could hardly keep her off my mind, but
I was young then, and my love was blind.

I didn’t want to leave, but Dad had to go,
I can’t really remember why, though.
I never saw her again as I grew up,
But the memories of her are so bold.
There have been other girls since then,
But the first one is the only one when
I could say I really had a girlfriend.
I didn’t want the good times to end
Because when I was young, I was in love
With the girl next door.

The girl next door was a friend of mine,
And our love for each other was hard to find.
I remember her face. Her smile was so kind.
I could hardly keep her off my mind, but
I was young then, and my love was blind.

My baby girl is cute and turning 10.
She says at school she has a boyfriend.
As a dad, I’m not sure how this will end,
Because when I was young, I was in love
With the girl next door.

The girl next door was a friend of mine,
And our love for each other was hard to find.
I remember her face. Her smile was so kind.
I could hardly keep her off my mind, but
I was young then, and my love was blind.

I don’t want to see you anymore

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother C.J. Chatham III

I don’t want to see you anymore

You thought the time here wasn’t worth your rent,
even after all my credit cards have been spent.
I want to know just to whom you will go,
so I can warn him of the kind of person you are.

You are a bitch, baby, bitch, baby, a regular whore.
You need to leave, now, leave, now, before I pay more.
Don’t let the screen hit you when you go through the door.
I really don’t want to see you, anymore.
