About Elias Tobias
Born Aug. 17, 1956, in Corona, California.
Had first poems published in high school, graduated from Columbus North High School (Columbus, Indiana) in 1975.
Graduated from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, with Bachelor’s Degree in photojournalism in 1979.
First newspaper job in 1980.
Graduated from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, with Master’s Degree in photojournalism in 1983.
Started two-year Teachers License program at Ball State University, and finished 1991.
Decided to use Elias Tobias as a pen name in 1991 and started Ball State Literary Foundation, a computerized on-line poetry and short story magazine on the university computer system.
Met Patty Webb, a student in non-traditional student/foreign student dorm.
Started as English teacher with Brownsville ISD in 1991.
Married Patty July 17, 1993, in Richmond, Indiana.
Finished as middle school teacher and started as copy editor/page designer for Brownsville Herald in fall of 2000.
Started as business journal editor for Laredo Morning Times in spring of 2004.
Left Texas in September 2007, to move to Indianapolis, Indiana, where his wife had a job change through a company transfer. He worked as an adjunct English instructor for Ivy Tech Community College and as a Direct Support Professional for Indiana Mentor. He has worked for ResCare Workforce Services as a businesses services representative in April of 2010 for Marion County IMPACT program. Left position in August of 2013.
Currently works full-time as a desktop support technician at Dell (through Apex) who is contracted to provide computer support services to Ascension Health and the St. Vincent’s Health Network in Carmel, Indiana.
