Wizard’s Words

When you find the Horn of Feguela,
play the two tenor tones in tune,
and the mountains will move to reveal
where the gods were born.
There are several forgeries of the horn,
and only the original will move
the mountains the proper way.
The fakes will play the wrong sounds
and then the gates of hell will be exposed
releasing more death and destruction.
I have heard the Wild Women of the East
have a horn, and they will reveal it for a price.
For some mortals the price is too much,
and they never return.
Your journey to find the beginning of us
could be the end of us.

 Shaping clouds

I wish I would build a staircase to the sky
and shape the clouds as they rolled by.
I wish I could swim like the fishes in the sea
and stay under water they way they breathe.
I wish people would respect and care for each
other and there would be no hate forever.
My wishes are my dreams, but I look out the
window and see now they are not the reality.
One side has more power, more men and better
guns, but did this side have a victory won?

Get back, Jack.
Gimme some slack.
Sometimes I think  it’s patience you lack.
I  can get  your money  back.
You say time is money, and  you
Have expressed interest , compounded daily.
You see I don’t want to wait forever,
But it will take some time to get it together.

Bank of Memories

In my journey, each step marked in the mud can be cast into stone in time.
I do what I think I should be doing to get to where I think I should be going,
But during the journey, I have experienced turns and unexpected detours.
I bank all these steps worth keeping in a vault, and with each new experience,
I search for the key to the right deposit box so I can make the most of what
I believe will be expected of me.  Sometimes the keys are hard to find,
But in the nick of time, I get back into step on my journey that can only
End when I can’t walk anymore or I get too tired of doing something new.

Rules were meant to be broken

Rules were meant to be broken 

Things are not as clear and simple as they look,
And people do the wrong acts for the right reason.
That’s the time to forget about doing things by the book.
It’s an end justify the means kind of decision.
Rules were made for people who can’t work together,
And thus another policy or procedure is born.
People earn degrees in the study and application of this,
Despite the regular workers water cooler scorn.
Rules were meant to be broken, or at least changed,
Since the lives of people are constantly rearranged.

Reciprocity

Sometimes I bleed from the outside in.
Righteous indignation gets under my skin.
Doctors are stunned and
don’t’ know where to begin.
To touch me would be considered
a mortal sin.
Then symptoms goes away,

and everything is reversed.

Point of No Return

This poem was submitted to Eber & Wein Publishing after I received an email that I had been selected to participate in the company’s “Best Poets of 2013”, their annual compilation that features poets selected by editors from the company. The poem was entered into the Poet of the Year contest and be eligible for any prizes or awards. The poem was also included in Expressions,  a CD of audio versions of selected poems by the editors.

Point of No Return

From the night’s dark abyss,
the early morning light reveals
blood stains floating on the water,
a sign that the winds of change
have moved in a new direction.
Terror mounts with each tide.
This is an evil from hot knives
held by spirits in men who have
moved past the point of no return
and left footprints in the sand.
