The Only One

Editor’s Note: LSC member Rev. Paul Abernathy rediscovers his rock and roll past with a classic love ballad.  I wish I had his music, or may he just wrote the words.  He didn’t say.  If you have any musical talents for these words, let us know!  Send an email to contact@eliastobias.net and put “The Only One Music” in the subject line.

The Only One

Music intro

I want you to understand
I will do anything I can
To prove to you I’m your man.
This is no teenage crush.
I’ve known you ling enough.
Your smile gives me a rush.
This is no silly love song
About an affair that went wrong.
I want to hold you for a long, long time.
Chorus
You are the only one for me.
You are the only one for me.
You are the only one for me.
It’s the way it has to be.
You are the only one for me.

I want you to understand
I will do anything I can
To prove to you I’m your man.
This is no teenage crush.
I’ve known you ling enough.
Your smile gives me a rush.
This is no silly love song
About an affair that went wrong.
I want to hold you for a long, long time.
You’ll always be more than a friend of mine.
Chorus
You are the only one for me.
You are the only one for me.
You are the only one for me.
I will do anything to make you see
You are the only one for me.

Instrumental bridge with guitar solo

I want you to understand
I will do anything I can
To prove to you I’m your man.
Chorus
You are the only one for me.
You are the only one for me.
You are the only one for me.
I will do anything to make you see
You are the only one for me.

Lonesome Heart

Editor’s Note: Other authors may have poems or even book titles with this same title. but this version is from Elias Tobias.

Lonesome Heart

I know that you want me,
but you can only have half of my heart.
That is all I can give.
I know that you love me, but I
need the rest of heart so my soul can live.

I see the pain in your eyes,
and I have to look away.
My mouth starts to open,
but there’s nothing to say.
Things could’ve been different,
They don’t need to be this way.
The sun will rise again tomorrow,
and bring with it a brand new day.

I know that you want me,
but you can only have half of my heart.
That is all I can give.
I know that you love me, but I
need the rest of heart so my soul can live.

You are allowed to remember,
but it’s hard living in the past.
You try to start something new,
but it never seems to last.
You try to reach for the light,
but it is always hard to grasp.
The clouds you find in the sky
make the weather report overcast.

I know that you want me,
but you can only have half of my heart.
That is all I can give.
I know that you love me, but I
need the rest of heart so my soul can live.

Superstitions

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

Superstitions

I remember when the old woman in black
translated the positions of the leaves of tea.
She said someone close cast a spell over me.
Since then things haven’t changed much,
even the way that I feel, and I wonder if
these magic superstitions can be real.
She was saying what I wanted to hear,
looking for signs of emotions I fear.
I’m waiting for the start of my bad luck,
while she has moved on, getting bucks from
those who want their future in their hands.
Steps made now determine where we stand.

Our Love Shared, Not Owned

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

Our Love Shared, Not Owned

I can be your woman, you
could be my man, and
we both could be lovers,
but I could not own your love,
nor could you own mine.
The only owner of our
moments could be time,
who steals them for his
own personal scrapbook.
We share our loves,
like the millions of fish
who live and die in the sea;
like the workers of the land,
whose crops feed them when
they don’t own the deed;
like the varieties of trees that
are homes to insects and animals
and plants who help us breathe.
If you owned my love, and
I owned yours, we would
possess each other’s soul.
We would fight for control.
This is a conflict only God
and the Devil need to know.
I can be your woman, you
could be my man, and
we both could be lovers,
but I could not own your love,
nor could you own mine.

The Key

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

The Key

“A very little key will
open a very heavy door.”
Your love is the mystery,
and I’d like to know you more.
Your smile is that key
I have been searching for.

“A very little key will
open a very heavy door”
is a line Dickens once wrote.
The words are on the floor.
They gather into a note that
will make you want me more.

“A very little key will
open a very heavy door.”
It’s hard to wait for the day
until you’ll see a such a poor
woman like me let me say
the words you’ll adore.

“A very little key will
open a very heavy door.”
Until then I’ll just live
on smiles you show more
and more as you give
me hope I can’t ignore.

“A very little key will
open a very heavy door.”
Let cupid’s arrows pierce
your rusty metal armor,
and put your heart near
one who loves you forever.

Branded

Branded

Your heart has been branded
by the mark of your lover,
and though you are now apart,
your heart is broken.
I can heal the hurt since
your brand is on my heart.

20 Tons of Love

truck

(Courtesy photo)

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

20 Tons of Love

Your love hit me like a 18-wheeler
with a full load on the highway
straight to my heart.
But you have delivered at the dock,
left me alone at home,
and now we’re apart.
You said there was another place
for you to be, but honey,
where does that leave me?
Now matter where you park your rig,
I figure there will be a time you’ll
remember when we were together.
Then you’ll get diesel in your tanks
and make the miles burn to the
place where your heart can learn
to park your 20 tons of love.

Near the threshold of love and hate

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

Near the threshold of love and hate

There’s a thin line between ecstasy and pain,
somewhere near the threshold of love and hate.
The difference decides marriage and divorce rates.
The anxiety created affects outcomes of first dates.
Fear of the unknown makes many people wait.
Results are a matter of personal will or of fate.

Or I Don’t Have You At All

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother Bill Kelso

Or I Don’t Have You At All

There have been lovers in the past,
but I can’t remember their first names.
Being with someone was important then,
and I treated it like it was just a game.
I was merely a child then,
wishing that I would quickly get old.
I searched for a time I’d find who
would let me wear their ring of gold.

Now all the cards are drawn.
The chips are on the table,
and it’s time to fold or call.
Either I win your love tonight,
or I don’t have you at all.

Other men want your affections.
All they want is to hold your hand.
If you give me just one more chance,
I will prove to you I can be your man.
I can’t say exactly what the others see,
but as for me, I am color-blind.
I can feel the love you have for me
in my heart, my soul and my mind.

Now all the cards are drawn.
The chips are on the table,
and it’s time to fold or call.
Either I win your love tonight,
or I don’t have you at all.

Remember that night together when we
first met, camping under the stars?
We talked about our dreams that time
and thought together we would go far.
The fire glowed full over your face,
and I heard you laugh with a smile.
The good times don’t have to end there.
The trail goes on a few more miles.

Now all the cards are drawn.
The chips are on the table,
and it’s time to fold or call.
Either I win your love tonight,
or I don’t have you at all.

I need you love more than you
can ever really understand.
Now you look away, close your
eyes and shake your head “no”.
I am pleading with you to just
give our love another chance.
You say you are in a hurry,
and it’s time for you to go.

Now all the cards are drawn.
The chips are on the table,
and it’s time to fold or call.
Either I win your love tonight,
or I don’t have you at all.

Hole in my heart

Hole in my heart

There’s a hole in my heart,
And the pages in the past keep on turning.
The love that was lost keeps on burning.
I just can’t understand why
You don’t want me for your man.
I can’t live my life without you.

Things are not as simple as they seem to be.
It’s convenient to invent another reality,
But the past resurfaces eventually,
Since keys to memories remain daily.
Fingerprints on the scene are obviously
Evidence she did the crime convincingly.
Like a cake, layers of lies raise possibilities,
And suspects’ motives twist ironically,
So much, it makes for a movie mystery.
At the end, she walks away, innocently,
But that is never the end of the story.

There’s a hole in my heart,
And the pages in the past keep on turning.
The love that was lost keeps on burning.
I just can’t understand why
You don’t want me for your man.
I can’t live my life without you.

Things are not as simple as they seem to be.
Sign with a stamp, and enter automatically
A million dollar sweepstakes or lottery,
But the odds of losing are mathematically
Decided, and, of course, done legally.
The real winners are a strange minority.
Costs of winning transfer to the majority,
And the promotion is done effectively.
Business incomes increase exponentially.
There will be those who want things free,
But that is never the end of the story.

There’s a hole in my heart,
Yet love for my wife keeps on beating.
The pain I feel inside keeps on hurting.
I just can’t understand why
You don’t want me for your man.
I can’t live my life without you.

Things are not as simple as they seem to be.
Time and again, humans ignore history,
And try to extend their possibilities.
World resources are used inefficiently,
And many people suffer, consequently.
Aided with more machines and technology
Countries connect by a complex economy.
Governments try to work together politically,
But strengthen their power with the military.
Life would be better if we lived in harmony,
But that is never the end of the story.

There’s a hole in my heart,
Yet love for my wife keeps on beating.
The pain I feel inside keeps on hurting.
I just can’t understand why
You don’t want me for your man.
I can’t live my life without you.

Things are not as simple as they seem to be,
When it comes to relationships romantically.
Who we love or hate is found astrologically.
Teenagers deal daily with changes in puberty.
Feelings and emotions are expressed musically.
Years of childhood disappear dramatically
Birth rates are proof of love’s popularity,
And more marriages are mixed racially.
The definition of what makes a family
Is challenged in county court rooms daily,
But that is never the end of the story.

Things are not as simple as they seem to be.

There’s a hole in my heart,
And the pages in the past keep on turning.
The love that was lost keeps on burning.
I just can’t understand why
You don’t want me for your man.
I can’t live my life without you.
