Our Love Shared, Not Owned

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

Our Love Shared, Not Owned

I can be your woman, you
could be my man, and
we both could be lovers,
but I could not own your love,
nor could you own mine.
The only owner of our
moments could be time,
who steals them for his
own personal scrapbook.
We share our loves,
like the millions of fish
who live and die in the sea;
like the workers of the land,
whose crops feed them when
they don’t own the deed;
like the varieties of trees that
are homes to insects and animals
and plants who help us breathe.
If you owned my love, and
I owned yours, we would
possess each other’s soul.
We would fight for control.
This is a conflict only God
and the Devil need to know.
I can be your woman, you
could be my man, and
we both could be lovers,
but I could not own your love,
nor could you own mine.

Pieces of the Puzzle

Pieces of the Puzzle

We are all related to each other.
If by needs, marriage or by blood,
And it has been that way since Noah
Saved all Mankind from the flood.
There’re few physical differences,
Including the colors of the face.
Boundary lines are drawn from
Historical events that happen someplace.
We all want to be different in some way,
So we can have a certain identity.
But why do the differences demand
People treat each other differently?
There are limited natural resources used
As we live each day on this earth,
And we need more of these things
As we grow from our day of birth.
There’re plenty of problems to solve,
But there are many solutions, too.
All the pieces of the puzzle are connected,
And a better day can only start with you.

The Key

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

The Key

“A very little key will
open a very heavy door.”
Your love is the mystery,
and I’d like to know you more.
Your smile is that key
I have been searching for.

“A very little key will
open a very heavy door”
is a line Dickens once wrote.
The words are on the floor.
They gather into a note that
will make you want me more.

“A very little key will
open a very heavy door.”
It’s hard to wait for the day
until you’ll see a such a poor
woman like me let me say
the words you’ll adore.

“A very little key will
open a very heavy door.”
Until then I’ll just live
on smiles you show more
and more as you give
me hope I can’t ignore.

“A very little key will
open a very heavy door.”
Let cupid’s arrows pierce
your rusty metal armor,
and put your heart near
one who loves you forever.

There is too much anger in the world today

There is too much anger in the world today

There is too much anger in the world today,
and people can’t find a way to get along.
There are groups who promise violence when
they don’t get their say, and that’s wrong.

There are pretend Christians in the fight,
And that’s just not what Jesus really said.
People die in violence every day and night,
and if a gun is there, someone ends up dead.

Issues of prejudice, racism, inequality prevail,
and some think the answer is to build a wall.
Many peace groups try their best, but some fail,
Fences divide society, and hope for love falls.

There is too much anger in the world today,
and people can’t find a way to get along.
We need to find answers somehow, some way,
On this course, humans will extinctly be gone.

A Few Things

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

A Few Things

Do I work to live, or do I live to work?
I do know it’s hard to get up and go when
The sunrises each morning,
But I don’t like to get past due bill warnings.
If I wait too long, they take my car,
And without that I can’t go very far,
Especially when I need to go to work.
Material things shouldn’t be treasured,
But there are a few things I really need.
I work to live and live to work, but I
Hope not to the level of excessive greed.

Branded

Branded

Your heart has been branded
by the mark of your lover,
and though you are now apart,
your heart is broken.
I can heal the hurt since
your brand is on my heart.

The Tree and Me

The Tree and Me

I am a leaf on a stem
on a branch on a
larger branch on
a trunk of a tree.
I am an important part of this small community.
There are thousands of leaves just like me,
and when the wind blows I sway in the breeze.
I know of my final destiny, but is this all life has to be?
With respect to my
family, I believe I
know what I can do has
multiple possibilities
besides being just a
leaf in a tree. I want to
make my mark in history.

The Difference Between Swords and Words

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

The Difference Between Swords and Words

A swift sword helps create an empire,
soiled by the blood of those who rise against it.
The razor-sharp edge keeps people in line,
but over time the metal which supports the edge
loses its strength, and can no longer be trusted.
The edge can get dull, and be easily rusted.
The unity is threatened when the blade can break,
but a new, and more dangerous weapon can
be forged from the mold of the master sword,
and the harmony is restored among the nations,
who have no hate or strife among the people
except for ruling power which controls them.

The sword of the new generation tries to
keep the dynasty alive, but it really cuts down
every chance of successful reign since the
new blades dull even faster than before.
Violence will erupt, and the revolution begins.
Words of peace are spoken by a prophet,
and they are recorded for generations to believe.
Many are still hurt and killed by newer swords,
but the edge gives way to the words of life.
A new era begins with hope for the future.

20 Tons of Love

(Courtesy photo)

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

20 Tons of Love

Your love hit me like a 18-wheeler
with a full load on the highway
straight to my heart.
But you have delivered at the dock,
left me alone at home,
and now we’re apart.
You said there was another place
for you to be, but honey,
where does that leave me?
Now matter where you park your rig,
I figure there will be a time you’ll
remember when we were together.
Then you’ll get diesel in your tanks
and make the miles burn to the
place where your heart can learn
to park your 20 tons of love.
