Party Girl

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother Antonio “Tony” Alejandro Martin Gonzales.

Party Girl

This goes to the girl with the flower in her hair,
I could feel the weight of your stare.
Did you want somebody to please?
I wondered why you thought it could be me.
I was there to get away from classes,
Just to hang out and drink with friends,
Where the red cup refills never end
And I see things fly beyond my glasses.
I talked with you for just a while,
But I felt that you weren’t my style,
I’m really not sure what that is.
My lips are picky about who they kiss.

History Lesson

History Lesson

There once was a popular king, not too long ago,
Who was thought to be able to converse with the gods
And was able to tell what the world was really like,
But the words he spoke were often in strange tongues,
Unlike any language in existence, so his closest advisors
Had the uncomfortable duty to interpret and re-interpret
What the popular king really meant to say so that his
Subjects could apply the meanings to their regular lives.
He was worshiped, and could do nothing wrong.  He
Was rich in every way, and gold was his standard from
The toilet he used to the fleet of cars he owned.
His wealth was gleamed from the people he taxed,
Leaving the lower classes believing they were rich
In the ideas he communicated with the Gods,
But the only way he could receive these messages
Was through the use of special royal medicines
Which he was alone allowed to use, by royal decree.
It was easy to see how others could believe,
For he was the King and could do or say no wrong.
He stayed alive too long, for the kingdom fell
Apart, and his people suffered broken hearts;
And those advisors tried to take advantage
Of their position were soon departed,
Until the day the King died, for he was killed
By one of his loyal followers, poor in spirit,
But rich in bullets which came from a gun,
And then the king was done.

I-465

I-465

Traffic along I-465 in Indianapolis, IN (photo by Mike Hall)

I-465

I leave an hour early, so I won’t be late,
And I need to be ready at my desk at eight.
Driving on I-465 is not a pleasurable drive.
Nerves of steel are needed to survive.
You have to watch for drivers that go in and out.
Things almost happen so much I want to shout.
It is an art getting to the correct turn lane,
And catching the right ramp is just insane.
I like to listen to the satellite radio since
The music is my kind of rock and roll.
It sets my mind on a mental cruise control.
I view the 55 mph speed limit signs as a guide,
But at times I see cars pulled over roadside.
In the morning, the sun blinds me from the East.
Bad weather is on the way home from the West.
I don’t think going any direction is the best.
Merging traffic slows speeds down to a crawl,
Or there is an accident, and it doesn’t move at all.
Beware of orange barrels and signs of construction.
Barricades and shifting lanes are obstructions.
The road turns into another animal at night.
More trucks are present, and the lights are bright.
Precipitation in Indiana changes with the seasons,
And people drive fast in the snow for no reason,
Except, like chickens, to get to the other side,
But that’s an awful waste of a way to die.
Despite alternatives, 465 driving a necessity
When you need to get somewhere in the city.
Be of sound mind to be prepared before you go,
Just like a feeling Indy 500 drivers should know.

Beauty and the Beast

As a wild flower, Morning Glory blooms are bright and refreshing, except when they get into Midwest cornfields, like this field along Duffield Road new New Paris, Ohio.  The plants with deep roots can strangle corn crops. (Photo by Mike Hall)

Gypsy Heart

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother Antonio “Tony” Alejandro Martin Gonzales

Gypsy Heart

You live like a wandering gypsy,
always changing your identity.
Even though you have a new name,
you seem to play the same games.
You force people like me to give
you their body, soul and heart.
Then you steal my property,
and then make a new start.
There’s no court in all the land
that can get back what you took from me.
Justice will be when you make
a mistake, and will no longer be free
to hurt people with your gypsy heart.

The Perfect Song

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother Antonio “Tony” Alejandro Martin Gonzales

The Perfect Song

The past keeps pulling me back,
The chances come for what I used to do,
And the good times return to my mind,
But there’s no real reason I can find
To relive the past. It just won’t last.

The past keeps pulling me back,
Opportunities keep knocking at my door.
And the good times return to my mind,
But there’s no real reason I can find
To relive the past. It just won’t last.

I’m going a new direction, and I don’t
Know how long I’ll be gone.
Don’t expect me to return. I’m the singer
Looking for the perfect song.

You are no longer a part of my life.
Just because we once had a history,
now you want to stake your claim.
The whole affair was a mistake,
And I’m the fool to blame.

You are no longer a part of my life.
Just because we once had a history,
now you want to stake your claim.
You know things are different
And you no longer need my name.

I’m going a new direction, and I don’t
Know how long I’ll be gone.
Don’t expect me to return. I’m the singer
Looking for the perfect song.

Tony Gonzales

Antonio “Tony” Alejandro Martin Gonzales

Antonio “Tony” Alejandro Martin Gonzales becomes newest LSC fraternity member

Antonio “Tony” Alejandro Martin Gonzales is the newest and 13th member to be part of the Lambda Sigma Chi fraternity. He is an executive with a tortilla factory owned by his family-third generation management in Carrizozo, New Mexico.. He is 37 years old, and married for 15 years with a-family of three children.

Tony’s grandfather, Martin, started a restaurant, Al Caballero (The Horseman) with his grandmother in early 1950s using her mother’s recipe for tortillas at the restaurant after Martin returned from military service in World War II and businesses was good.  Soon other restaurants came, but the place became known for its tortillas, so they started just making tortillas as a small business for other restaurants who didn’t make their own, including franchises.  The company’s logo is a horse rider.

Business has grown into a factory employing up to 450 people and has an average, $8 million gross each year. Forty percent of  their market goes to local supermarkets, and 60 percent to wholesale markets such as restaurant and foods processors who make precooked Mexican meals.  Tony started working in factory while in his youth and while going to college, moved into lower management,  and  now he is an executive with the company.

Tony is sponsored by LSC member Christopher Benedict, who learned of Gonzales’ writing skills as an editor of a book publishing company.  Benedict is a former journalist, and suggested Tony become part of LSC.  The invitation was accepted, all members voted unanimously for induction into the unofficial organization.

Here is his debut poem…

The worse thing in the world

The worse thing in the world
Is a poet who doesn’t write.
It’s a time when a vision fall short,
And wonder is longer in sight.
It’s a time when battles are over,
And there are no causes to fight.
It’s a time when blades of swords
Are stronger than a pen’s might.
It’s a time when love seems lost,
And there is no romance at night.
It’s when the obvious is common,
And complacency is considered right.

The worse thing in the world
Is a poet who doesn’t write.
it’s a time when people are too busy
And they are burdened by their plight.
It’s a time when troubles take time,
And the load carried is not light.
It’s a time when emotions grow
And tensions can remain tight.
It’s a time when the present is
Important and future is not bright.
The worse thing in the world
Is a poet who doesn’t write.

WYSIWYG

What you see is what you get.
I’m a work in progress; I’m not done yet.
Someday I’ll do something great, I bet.
What you see is what you get.

What you see is what you get.
It’s the only thing I know.
I plant my seeds in the garden
And watch the patch grow.
I work to use the right ways
As I dig the garden’s rows,
But sometimes I change direction
Depending on the way the wind blows.

What you see is what you get.
I’m a work in progress; I’m not done yet.
I’m catching butterflies in my net.
What to see is what you get.

Sand Castles in Mind

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother Kyle Morgan Stewart

Sand Castles in Mind

The potential exists for sand castles to be built in
any mind.
First, a solid foundation is made with fresh,
wet sand for form walls, arches and towers.
Through education, the foundation is sculpted by
many hands over time, for time is needed
to make a masterpiece.
Only too often the forces of wind and rain erode the
drying foundation , and, in time, all that
is left is a shapeless pile for a small,
but gifted, child to design their own reign of terror.
Or, wave after wave, the sea of mindless creatures
claims one of their own and the grains of
knowledge are scattered by salted water.

Road Song

lsc-t-shirtlogo.jpg

A poem by Brother Paul Abernathy

Road Song

Maybe I’ve been on the road so long
that faces seem to look all the same,
but behind every little expression, there
is a different person with a special name.

Who are you and where are you going to?
I feel like I’ve see you somewhere before.
I’d like to learn why you’re so familiar.
I like your smile and want to know you more.

Maybe I’ve been on the road so long
that faces seem to look all the same,
but behind every little expression, there
is a different person with a special name.

We don’t have to start a perpetual affair.
I’d just like to hold you tonight.
My heart has to find a place called home,
and for a while, I’ll just feel fine.

Maybe I’ve been on the road so long
that faces seem to look all the same,
but behind every little expression, there
is a different person with a special name.

Love doesn’t give you time to think.
It’s an emotion and you can only react.
With love, you have it or you don’t.
No time to analyze it. and that’s a fact.

Maybe I’ve been on the road so long
that faces seem to look all the same,
but behind every little expression, there
is a different person with a special name.
