What Could Have Been

People look at me and think I’m over
you by the way I act, but they are wrong.
Like some old song on the radio, there
is a record in my mind that plays over
And over about what could have been
if you didn’t want to hide our love.
I can understand your reasons because
you were hurt by another man, and
Your child you love now is a reminder
of the past after all the years. She’s a
reflection of your smile I saw when
I first met you, and feelings for each
other quickly grew through the few
months we were together, and I often
think of what could have been
if you didn’t want to hide our love.
I see you now and then, apart, at
the store and such, and you smile
for a second at me like you did before,
and that song starts playing over again,
and I think about what could have been.
