Playing the Game

You look in the mirror and start to cry,
And the more you look, you wonder why.
The problem lies in the way you like to see,
And you live your life in a fake fantasy.
Your friends and boss gave you clues,
But you haven’t yet got the big news.
Dry your tears and look out a window
To get a view of the cold, real show.
Your knight in shining armor has a flaw.
One who loves you has been by all along.
Get past your problems with some change
And you will get back playing the game.

Wings of Revolution

It has been calculated the air disturbance
from the movement of a Monarch butterfly’s
wings on one side of the world could theoretically
cause a cyclone on the opposite side of the world.
They call this the Butterfly Effect.
If one good deed is done to an stranger one time
and one place, then the wings of revolution could
spread exponentially to change another people’s
lives  in other countries.  There are millions of
Monarch butterflies, and there should be a billion
smiles started with a few gifts of time and compassion.

So here you are again.

A Different Fourth

As the last few logs on the camp fire
glow in the night, there will not be
any fireworks this Fourth of July.
They are not needed tonight.
Friends and family are together
Again for another year’s reunion.
The only celebration is the half-moon
hanging in the quiet sky over the tall
bare tree at the edge of the peninsula.
Distant lights along the lake reflect
in the ripples of waves in the water.

I’m Going Back to Texas

The white sand of the beach at South Padre Island offers a restful retreat from the regular routine.

I’m Going Back to Texas

I’m going back to Texas,
‘cause that’s where I want to be.
If Texas was a woman, I think
Her big breasts are calling me.
I‘ve  got friends down there,
And places I have yet to see.

I’m here in the Midwest state,
And I really don’t know why.
Weather is really crazy here,
and corn is knee-high in July.
By December, snow’s on the ground,
And it’s only 3 degrees Fahrenheit.
I have a good job here, I guess,
But it seems like I just get by.
I think I’d rather be in Texas,
Where mostly it’s warm and dry.

I’m going back to Texas,
‘cause that’s where I want to be.
If Texas was a woman, I think
Her big breasts are calling me.
I‘ve got friends down there,
And places I have yet to see.

People in Texas carved out a state, and
they’re proud of their unique history.
It’s so big and different in landscape,
They say it’s a whole another country.
It’s the people who make it what it is,
With a oneness in a great diversity.
Business is as varied as its people,
With a wide range of major industries.
The blending of the different cultures
Creates a heritage for the world to see.

I’m going back to Texas,
‘cause that’s where I want to be.

I know I’d really like to leave here,
But I don’t really know when.
I’ve lived on the West Coast, the
East Coast, and back here again.
But after staying a Texas a spell,
It’s the best place I’ve ever been.
Meantime, I try find a conference
For a week in San Antonio to attend.
That would give me the opportunity
To visit some of my old friends.

The Employment Blues

It seems like the same old song and dance.
Put on a coat and tie, and hope you have half a chance.
There are times when I feel like I’m down and out,
And I wonder if it would help just to shout.
There’s other times when I figure I’m doing alright,
But through it all, I’m in for the fight and
Somewhere down the road my future’s bright.

Box of Cards

I came across my box of old birthday
Holiday, and anniversary cards today,
And memories of these special days
Came back like they were yesterday.

I took a few moments to read some
Written messages there were to see.
These cards are a recorded history
Of all the love you have for me.

I stopped since I needed to go,
And the box was a distraction I know,
But the feelings I get from the cards show
I will always love you so.
