Lines

Lines

As toddlers, we are taught to color with
crayons inside the lines.
Then in kindergarten we move by groups in lines.
In elementary school, we get lunch in line, and
learn to write on the lines.  On the way home
from school, we ride the bikes on the right side
of the center line. When we start to drive,
we don’t pass on a solid yellow line.
Cars are parked between the lines, and parents work to
keep their kids in line.  We parents talk politics, they
are told not to move from the party line.
We wait for entrance to stadiums in line.  Some people
get in line for their share of food once a month, or
to  get a job. Dallas Cowboys like to cross the line at
the end zone with a football and we call on
telephone lines. For some reason I colored outside
the lines when I was young, and I don’t care if the poem
doesn’t rhyme.
