Alexander Michael Dunbar

Alexander Michael Dunbar

Meet Alexander Michael Dunbar, the 12th and newest member of the unofficial Lambda Sigma Chi fraternity of writers created by Elias Tobias, and he joins a group with diverse backgrounds and creative influences. Alexander has been writing for years, but never had anything published, so this is a big leap for a 66-year-old man who is used to working and taking care of his family.

He sent a few of his poems to the Elias Tobias World of Words to be published and I noticed his style was very similar to those of the rest of the members of the LSC fraternity. I invited Alexander to join and he wholeheartedly accepted, and then he sent a life’s work of poems in a portfolio. His nomination was approved by the rest of the group and Alexander is officially a member of LSC.

Alexander Michael Dunbar has lived all his life in Duluth. Minnesota, the fourth generation of German immigrants to the area, and he grew up working on the docks at the port until he became an apprentice brick layer. He has since retired as a master mason, and he is involved in his church activities as well as his family, two boys and three girls, all of whom are married and supply Alexander the title as grandparent and great-grand parent titles several times over. Unfortunately, he lost his wife of 35 years to cancer, and with a life of joys and sorrows, his poetry reflects those joys and sorrows.

Here is his debut set of poems which show his range:

Thank the Lord

I thank the Lord, for all I’ve got.
Even though it doesn’t seem much,
I’ve really been blessed a lot.
I have friends, family, food
and a place I can call home.
I have a special trust in Jesus
when I feel I am alone.
As I concentrate on today,
I was forgiven for my past,
and I won’t worry about tomorrow.
My love for Him is steadfast.
My life is together, and not on
the run. With help from His son,
I’ll love the Lord forever,
and His will be done on earth
as it is in Heaven.

Ruby, will you be my lover tonight?

Ruby, the woman in the red dress,
I have feelings for you, I confess.
Every night you dance on the stage,
and I tend to forget my old age
because I feel like a young boy.
Ruby, will you be my lover tonight?

Ruby, the woman with the red lips,
the thought of you makes my heart skip.
I love to see you smile at me.
Your love is something I need.
So when you are done with your show,
Ruby, will you be my lover tonight?

Ruby, the woman with the red hair,
we could have a scandalous affair.
Marriage makes me tow the line,
but one night with you would be fine.
I would be one heck of a happy man.
Ruby, will you be my lover tonight?
