I once knew a girl like you

I once knew a girl like you

I once knew a girl like you.
She was a high school cheerleader
with nothing to do but boys in school.
That was her idea of having fun,
until one day she found they guy
she thought was the only one.
She got a ring, had a big wedding,
and now they have twin sons.

But more often than not,  she’s alone,
raising the children on her own
while he’s singing songs on the road.
He drinks, smokes, and gets stoned,
while to make ends meet, she gets a loan
so she won’t lose what she calls home.
He says the new record will go gold
as soon as the albums are all sold.

I once knew a girl like you,
But that was a long time ago.
They say I have been a success, but
I’m always looking for another show.
I’d like to get to know you better,
but my heart says you really should go.
You’re young, beautiful and have a life.
I don’t want to make mistake twice in a row.
