Knock, Knock

Knock, Knock

These hands have spent a lifetime to
Support my country and my family,
To leave an honorable name and legacy.
But now I hear a knock on my door,
A different one than I’ve heard before.
My bones feel like they’re weak,
And the room seems to be a little cold.
They say it’s because I’m just old,
But more than that has changed.
I don’t know who’s on the other side
As I answer the sound in my dreams.
Maybe it’s time for me to go away,
But for now I’ll stay around today.
