The Bus Stop on Grand Avenue
It’s a landmark on the corner
of Grand and Market streets.
The cement primitive shelter,
a bench surrounded on three sides
by new and faded advertisements
for movies and cigarettes,
stands guard in the whispering wind,
drenching rain, biting snow and
intense heat. The permanently
mounted cement seat for three (or four)
has welcomed friends and strangers,
lovers and haters, the lost and the
found even though the hard
surface of the seat is uncomfortable.
The place is temporary, for some, and
permanent for others. Although routes
may change, the bus will stop here.
