Superstitions

A poem from Karen Ladonnavich, the LSC’s newest member and also the organization’s first woman member.

Superstitions

I remember when the old woman in black
translated the positions of the leaves of tea.
She said someone close cast a spell over me.
Since then things haven’t changed much,
even the way that I feel, and I wonder if
these magic superstitions can be real.
She was saying what I wanted to hear,
looking for signs of emotions I fear.
I’m waiting for the start of my bad luck,
while she has moved on, getting bucks from
those who want their future in their hands.
Steps made now determine where we stand.
