Lost Glove

A poem by Brother Alexander Michael Dunbar

Lost Glove

A lonely glove whose mate
was lost some time in his
youth is collected with other
handy orphans, signs of how
past winters were too much
for them.

Assorted colors and fabrics
– cotton, fleece, nylon and
leather – are faded after
seasons of abuse and contact
with different forms of
precipitation.

They were collected instead
of being trashed by his mother
as reminders of how he survived
winters with one hand unprotected.
