I Saw an Angel

I Saw an Angel

I heard an angel playing a simple song.
Her body was surrounded by a yellow glow.
Her face was somehow very familiar.
Her gown moved as the wind flirted a blow.
As I breathed, I valued every breath .
Maybe it wasn’t the time for me to go.
All she said was “I will be back.”

I saw an angel playing a simple song.
Even in the day she had a yellow glow.
Maybe she was from life or from death.
There wasn’t any way for me to know.
But I reacted quickly to save your life.
Maybe it wasn’t the time for you to go.
All she said was “I will be back.”

I saw an angel playing a simple song.
Even in the night she had a yellow glow.
That evening it was clear who was a star.
With your moves, it was all your show.
I stopped you from doing the last joke.
Maybe it wasn’t the time for you to go.
All she said was “I will be back.”

I heard an angel playing a simple song.
Her body was surrounded by a yellow glow.
She walked normally upon the water.
Stream wandered carelessly as it flowed.
Like Time, she could change it’s course.
Maybe it wasn’t the time for it to go.
All she said was “I will be back.”

I saw an angel playing a simple song.
Even in the day she had a yellow glow.
The sun continued to shine as usual,
allowing all plant and animal life to grow.
Perhaps she could make it all disappear.
Maybe it wasn’t time for the world to go.
All she said was, “I will be back.”

Back to Today

Back to Today

Yesterdays have seen better days
And now I need to find a way
To get myself back to today.
I knew what to do,
And who I was before,
But the more I try,
I’m not so sure.
Time has a way of slipping
Away before my eyes.
My smile is a thin disguise
Of who I really am inside.

Fall

Fall

I feel a nip in the air,
and I’m sure it will get colder.
It’s a time of Thanksgiving, and
now I feel another year older.

Sunsets are a little different,
and the days seem to get shorter.
The porch light stands out as
the nights seem a bit darker.

It’s a time of change,
as the seasons tend to go,
when leaves turn colors and
nature puts on her show.

Anonymous

Anonymous

In first grade, we talked about families,
And I wondered why I had no daddy.
I asked my mom at the store one day,
And she didn’t have much to say,
Except that his name was Anonymous.
I didn’t know him, and she said to
Look it up in a dictionary.  I cried
For two days straight after that.
Who would I take me to the school’s
Father-daughter dances, and who
Would walk me down the aisle when
I get married after he would first
Say it’s okay to get married?
My mom says she doesn’t even know,
So I stare at men’s faces looking for
My own reflection in their eyes.

Lines

Lines

As toddlers, we are taught to color with
crayons inside the lines.
Then in kindergarten we move by groups in lines.
In elementary school, we get lunch in line, and
learn to write on the lines.  On the way home
from school, we ride the bikes on the right side
of the center line. When we start to drive,
we don’t pass on a solid yellow line.
Cars are parked between the lines, and parents work to
keep their kids in line.  We parents talk politics, they
are told not to move from the party line.
We wait for entrance to stadiums in line.  Some people
get in line for their share of food once a month, or
to  get a job. Dallas Cowboys like to cross the line at
the end zone with a football and we call on
telephone lines. For some reason I colored outside
the lines when I was young, and I don’t care if the poem
doesn’t rhyme.

Country Road

Country Road

Many good songs have been written about me,
But this is the way it is, the reality.
I have a broken yellow line in the middle,
And the line goes to infinity on the flat land.
My name has a directional letters and numbers
That grow bigger the farther away from town.
The pavement is patched from seasonal changes,
And shoulders are softer with dirt and culverts.
Other country roads are parallel to me, and
Sometimes drivers need to stop at intersections.
In the spring, colorful wildflowers grow by the
side of the road before rows of corn are planted.
When it rains, the big drops fall hard, and it stops
As soon as it starts, leaving a rainbow over the fields.
I like to feel the small tires of children’s bicycles
As they take time to enjoy a bright summer day.
The wind blows through trees that grow away from
The pavement, and in the fall, leaves blanket me.
Sometimes in the early morning, a thick fog rolls in
and drivers have a hard time following me, but by
noon, the sun burns the misty clouds away.
I think the reason why songs are composed about me,
Is because I’m a simple way for people to get home.

Ton of Trust

Ton of Trust

I know that your nights get long when I’m gone,
But we both know I’m doing what I need to do.
I promised I’d be with you forever and ever,
And when I am away from home, I think of you.
There is a ton of trust between the both of us.

Another New Year’s Eve

Happy New Year

Another New Year’s Eve

After several years I’ve come to the conclusion
On New Year’s Eve not to have any resolutions.
They put people on the spot to make a change,
Many of which are not really in their range.
Situations are bound to change, that’s for sure,
But those come naturally as wheels of time turn.
So as this new year starts, there’s one way to be,
The promise to myself to be who I am … me.

Wizard’s Words

Wizard’s Words

When you find the Horn of Feguela,
play the two tenor tones in tune,
and the mountains will move to reveal
where the gods were born.
There are several forgeries of the horn,
and only the original will move
the mountains the proper way.
The fakes will play the wrong sounds
and then the gates of hell will be exposed
releasing more death and destruction.
I have heard the Wild Women of the East
have a horn, and they will reveal it for a price.
For some mortals the price is too much,
and they never return.  Your journey to find
the beginning of us could be the end of us.

Now’s the time for a Christmas song

ETChristmas

Now’s the time for a Christmas song

Now’s the time for a Christmas song.
We have been waiting all year long
To sing songs which celebrate Christ’s birth
And promote peace here on earth.
We can sing songs of love and joy
And now children deserve all their toys.

Now’s the time for a Christmas song.
We have been waiting all year long
To sing songs about one silent night
And how the angel’s wings were bright.
We can sing songs of snow and silver bells
And the little drummer boy playing well.

Now’s the time for a Christmas song.
We have been waiting all year long
To sing songs about jolly Santa Claus
And support others who help his cause.
We can sing songs of visiting those far and near
And can worship without any fear.

Now’s the time for a Christmas song.
We have been waiting all year long
To sing about Rudolph and the reindeer,
And how his nose makes the way clear.
We can sing about Frosty the Snowman,
And how elves make toys as fast as they can.

Now’s the time for a Christmas song.
We have been waiting all year long
To sing songs about hanging mistletoe
And those you would like to know.
We can sing about a second chance
To search for a special romance.

Now’s the time for a Christmas song.
We have been waiting all year long
To sing songs about foods at fancy feasts
And have a chance for new friends to meet.
We can sing about times of good cheer,
And we can’t wait to do it all again next year.
